The 1972 Dolphins are the only team to end the season unbeaten and untied. However, their kicker stole the show with one of football's enduring bloopers. Up 14-0 in the fourth quarter vs. the Redskins, Miami kicker Garo Yepremian (No. 1) lined up for a simple field goal to ice the game. His kick was blocked into his panicked hands, so the undersized kicker feebly tried to pass. But the ball slipped from his hands into those of Washington's Mike Bass (No. 41), who ran for a TD to cut Miami's lead in half with 2:07 left.

In the all-too-familiar Super Bowl eve story gone wrong, Bengals fullback Stanley Wilson (pictured) failed to show up for a Saturday night team meeting after telling some of his teammates that he forgot his playbook in his room. The Bengals players and coaches became concerned and went to find their teammate, then were shocked to find Wilson on the floor of his hotel-room bathroom in the midst of a serious cocaine overdose - shaken, sweaty and confused.

The FOX NFL Sunday's pregame gang is always poking fun at Terry Bradshaw's lack of intellect, with Terry often leading the way himself. But the reputation of Bradshaw as a dumb jock was put out in the open during Super Bowl week before the Steelers and Cowboys hooked up following the 1978 season. While being interviewed, quotable Dallas linebacker Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson told reporters Bradshaw "couldn't spell 'cat' if you spotted him the C and the T."

Late in the game, with the Steelers again driving, O'Donnell found Brown a second time, again with nobody in the same ZIP code, and the pick led to Dallas' game-clinching TD.

Before Super Bowl XXVI, Bills star RB Thurman Thomas was openly complaining that he was not getting enough publicity - then went out and rushed for only 13 yards (after, of course, famously misplacing his helmet as the game began). As bad as that was, Thomas' head-to-head matchup with Emmitt Smith was even worse.

With the Steelers and Cowboys trading TDs and leads in a wild first half, it seemed the first offense to blink would be the Super Bowl loser. Enter tight end Jackie Smith (pictured). On the Cowboys' opening drive of the second half, with Dallas down 21-14, QB Roger Staubach marched "America's Team" downfield against Pittsburgh's "Steel Curtain" defense. On a critical third down deep in Steelers territory, Staubach laid a perfect pass into the belly of the sliding Smith, who inexplicably dropped a pass most Americans of any age could catch.

The moral police have fed off of a number of police-related incidents during Super Bowl weeks of the past. For example, in January 1986, New England star Irving Fryar (pictured, left) was the subject of many questions after mysterious cuts on his fingers became public.

Everyone knows the story too well - especially in northern New York. With the high-powered Bills hustling downfield for one final go-ahead score against the Giants, Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas got the Bills into position for a potential winning field goal by reliable kicker Scott Norwood (pictured, No. 11). But with just seconds left, Norwood's 47-yard kick sailed wide right, robbing Kelly, Thomas and the rest of the soon-to-be four-time Super Bowl losers their best chance to win a championship.

It didn't change the outcome by a long shot, instead only the reputation of Cowboys Pro Bowl defensive lineman Leon Lett. With Dallas en route to a dominating 52-17 rout of the Bills, Lett (No. 78) grabbed a fourth-quarter fumble and headed unchallenged for a long return for a certain TD. Lett slowed down to celebrate (or gloat, depending on your point of view) around the Bills' 5-yard line. What Lett didn't know was that Buffalo WR Don Beebe (pictured) had hustled from the other side of the field. Beebe batted the ball from Lett's big paw, turning a TD into a touchback and entertaining the remaining masses worldwide.

In the midst of winning one of his three NFL Most Valuable Player awards in 1996, Brett Favre's off-field story had gained as much attention as his on-field play - the admission that he battled addiction to alcohol and painkilling medication. So, more than a few eyebrows were raised during Super Bowl week when the Packers QB was allegedly seen partying with beer in hand on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Favre and the team downplayed the sightings, but more mumbles were heard when Favre reportedly got dry heaves before kickoff on game day (what was the excuse?).

Falcons defensive back Eugene Robinson was known publicly as one of the league's true good guys, a real family man, in his playing days. In fact, on the day before Super Bowl XXXIII, Robinson had been presented with the NFL's Bart Starr Award - celebrating his high moral character. Hours later, the highly respected Robinson was arrested in Miami for soliciting a prostitute. Robinson was bailed out by game day, but it didn't help his cause when he was burned badly for possibly the play of the game.

Ray Lewis (pictured) has never hidden from the spotlight, but one incident that stains his past remains his arrest on the night after Super Bowl XXXIV, on Jan. 31, 2000 (for what?). Although the charges were eventually dropped, Lewis was convicted of obstruction of justice. When the Ravens made the Super Bowl the next year, the morality story of the week centered around the Pro Bowl linebacker - with critics lividly complaining -- that Lewis deserved to be watching the game from a jail cell rather than playing.

The media began scrambling on Jan. 25, 2003, the night before Super Bowl XXXVII between Tampa Bay and Oakland. Word had leaked that Raiders coach Bill Callahan had sent Pro Bowl center Barret Robbins home from the San Diego Super Bowl site. Immediate reports alleged that Robbins had ventured south of the border to Tijuana, Mexico, for a binge-drinking episode.

This is the mother of all Super Bowl controversies - strange considering it never affected the game or anyone's life. This was all about the Feb. 1, 2004, halftime act - Janet Jackson's notorious "wardrobe malfunction" in her duet performance with Justin Timberlake. The highly controversial MTV-produced show culminated with Timberlake ripping off Jackson's two-piece top, revealing the singer's breast covered by an obvious nipple shield. Jackson apologized, Timberlake was mortified and though the breast was exposed for just 9/16 second on the CBS telecast, the NFL announced it would never let MTV produce another halftime show.

Sometimes it's the little things can come back to kick you in the backside. Ask then-Panthers kicker John Kasay. He may have been Carolina's all-time scoring leader, but at the end of Super Bowl XXXVIII, Kasay made a mistake that may have cost his team a chance at a title. After Carolina had just scored a thrilling game-tying TD, knotting the score 29-29, Kasay made a major kickoff boo-boo - booting the ball out of bounds, giving Tom Brady's Patriots excellent field position at their 40 with just over a minute left.

As a professional employed by the NFL, there are certain things that you should never do. Back in 2005, Mike Tice committed a "no-no" when he admitted to this.

Before Super Bowl XLI between the Colts and Bears on Feb. 4, 2007, the negative media glare focused on Chicago DT Tank Johnson (right), who had been arrested for the third time in 18 months, after police turned up several unregistered guns and assault rifles just six weeks prior to the game.

Early in the unbeaten regular season by the 2008 Patriots, Bill Belichick had been embroiled in the "Spygate" sideshow - accused of illegally videotaping signals used by opposing coaching staffs in previous seasons. Belichick and the Patriots were punished and forced to apologize by Commissioner Roger Goodell. The topic faded by the time Super Bowl rolled around, but resurfaced on the eve of the game. A Boston Herald report cited ex-Pats employee Matt Walsh hinting that Belichick authorized him to tape a Rams practice walk-through before Super Bowl XXXVI.

Freddie Mitchell, who dubbed himself "FredEx" because he "always delivers," couldn't back his Super Bowl week smack directed at no-nonsense safety Rodney Harrison, one of the NFL's toughest hitters. The intense Harrison fed off the gibberish, taunted Mitchell constantly and even caught more passes from Philly QB Donovan McNabb (two INTs vs. Mitchell's one catch).

Ben Roethlisberger's first Super Bowl win came with help from the beleaguered officiating crew. It was a tough day for these "zebras" (we'll allow them to remain anonymous), who botched several key calls - whiffing on Big Ben's phantom go-ahead TD plunge in the second quarter (one replay showed he clearly never deserved), nullifying a late catch by TE Jerramy Stevens with a ghost penalty (taking away field position inside Pittsburgh's 5-yard line) and whistling Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck on a mysterious personal foul during an INT return, leaving fans sleepless in Seattle.

On Feb. 4, 2007, the Super Bowl halftime show was notoriously spiced up, though not to Spice Channel levels, by the one and only Prince. Was she a jinx? Pittsburgh fans may get that feeling after witnessing the unthinkable - the talented Christina Aguilera actually botching a line from the national anthem before the game. This is a singer who has been performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" in public since age 7. And even better, she has done the song proud several times in her youth at Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates and (you guessed it) Steelers games. This night, her flub foreshadowed a sloppy Steelers loss.
