News: Curtis shed 10 pounds this offseason in an effort to become quicker, the Monterey County Herald reports. [+]
Impact: Curtis has never caught more than eight passes in a season, but he'll have his best opportunity yet to contribute in 2009. The battle for the tight end job in Kansas City is wide open, although Curtis would need a pretty strong training camp to emerge as the starter. ( RotoWire - Jul 12, 2009) |
News: The Kansas City Star projects Beisel as the Chiefs' starting right outside linebacker to begin the season. [+]
Impact: We're a little skeptical of Beisel's ability to win the starting job, but he'll certainly get a chance to compete with Tamba Hali in training camp. Right now the depth chart at linebacker is pretty fluid, and taking any Chiefs LB as an IDP is a risky proposition. ( RotoWire - Mon. Jul 6, 2009) |
News: The Kansas City Star projects Williams as a backup inside linebacker to begin the season. [+]
Impact: The Chiefs had high hopes for Williams last season, but he landed in the coaching staff's doghouse early on and never recovered. He won't have any IDP value as a backup, but projected starter Zach Thomas is an injury risk at 36 years old, meaning Williams could get a few starts at some point. ( RotoWire - Mon. Jul 6, 2009)

Brady hurt, but Pats get win
Tom Brady limped off the field under the worried stares of Patriots fans. The thing they feared most finally happened - losing the NFL's reigning MVP to injury.
And the team they love more than any other plummeted from an exclamation point of an unbeaten 2007 regular season to a huge question mark in 2008 after it held on to beat the Kansas City Chiefs 17-10 Sunday.
Brady hurt his left knee when tackled by safety Bernard Pollard midway through the first quarter. He went to the locker room and didn't return. Matt Cassel, who had thrown only 39 passes as Brady's backup the past three seasons, took over.

News: The Patriots have signed Butler. [+]
Impact: The 5-foot-10, 185-pound cornerback was a first-team All-Big East pick as a senior at Connecticut in 2008. He finished his college career with 125 total tackles and 10 interceptions. He was taken with the 41st pick overall. ( STATS - Mon. Jul 13, 2009) |
News: Bruschi said Tuesday he hasn't considered whether he'll keep playing after 2009, which will be his 14th season with the team. The linebacker commented at a one-day football camp he ran for 67 youngsters at Gillette Stadium. [+]
Impact: He said that once he retires, he'd like to remain in football. And he said he knows he can coach. But he's not sure when he will stop playing. He said that once a player reaches 10 years in the NFL, it's best not to think beyond the upcoming season. Bruschi is coming off a season in which he often came off the field on third downs and had no sacks for the first time in his career. ( STATS - Tue. Jun 30, 2009) |
News: Bruschi, who turned 36 on June 9, is undecided about his NFL future beyond this coming season, the Boston Globe reports. [+]
Impact: Bruschi started 12 games last season before a knee injury ended his campaign. The veteran linebacker was primarily used on first and second downs, but he still managed 75 tackles, good for third on the team. He's not quite the stat-sheet filler he used to be, but if 6-7 tackles a game is enough to help you, he's worth considering as an IDP. ( RotoWire - Mon. Jun 29, 2009)
