News: Favre acknowledged he's ``running out of time'' to decide whether he'll play for the Minnesota Vikings this season. The quarterback told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he'll give the Vikings an answer on whether he'll play by the July 30 start of training camp. Favre has been working out with the Oak Grove High School football team three days a week all summer, but added a Sunday workout this week. [+]
Impact: The former Packers and Jets quarterback said surgery to repair a biceps tendon in his throwing arm was successful and that he has enough velocity to return to the NFL. He's just not sure whether that means he'll be able to compete for an entire season. "I felt like going to New York last year that I still had it," Favre said. "I didn't know my arm was hurt at the time. So that's what I try to get across to people." ( STATS - Thu. Jul 16, 2009) |
News: Washington is still considering a training-camp holdout, the New York Daily News reports. [+]
Impact: "Honestly the situation is pretty much the same as it was in minicamp," said Washington, who skipped about three weeks of offseason practice. Washington is worth well more than the $535,000 he's set to make this year, but the two sides are still far off in their negotiations. It could turn ugly quickly for the Jets if both Washington and Thomas Jones stage holdouts. ( RotoWire - Wed. Jul 15, 2009) |
News: Owens signed with the Jets on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. [+]
Impact: Owens was out of the league last year and has never caught more than six passes in a season. He'll take over the roster spot vacated by Bubba Franks, but he's not a lock to make the final roster. ( RotoWire - Wed. Jul 15, 2009)

News: The Patriots have signed Tate (knee), the Boston Globe reports. His contract is reportedly for four years with a $755,000 signing bonus. [+]
Impact: He's still recovering from a major knee injury that shortened his senior season, but the Pats decided that his upside as a wideout/returner outweighed any injury or character concerns (he tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Scouting Combine) attached to him. The Patriots are pretty deep at receiver, so it wouldn't surprise us if they bring him along slowly and end up placing him either on the PUP list or IR to start the season. ( RotoWire - Thu. Jul 16, 2009) |
News: The Patriots have signed Butler. [+]
Impact: The 5-foot-10, 185-pound cornerback was a first-team All-Big East pick as a senior at Connecticut in 2008. He finished his college career with 125 total tackles and 10 interceptions. He was taken with the 41st pick overall. ( STATS - Mon. Jul 13, 2009) |
News: Bruschi said Tuesday he hasn't considered whether he'll keep playing after 2009, which will be his 14th season with the team. The linebacker commented at a one-day football camp he ran for 67 youngsters at Gillette Stadium. [+]
Impact: He said that once he retires, he'd like to remain in football. And he said he knows he can coach. But he's not sure when he will stop playing. He said that once a player reaches 10 years in the NFL, it's best not to think beyond the upcoming season. Bruschi is coming off a season in which he often came off the field on third downs and had no sacks for the first time in his career. ( STATS - Tue. Jun 30, 2009)
