News: Hartwig may have a broken toe, according to the Philadelphia Examiner. [+]
Impact: The Steelers have not confirmed the report but Hartwig has been seen with a walking boot. There were already concerns about the offensive line considering a poor showing in 2008; losing their center and one of their best lineman for an extended period would certainly not make things better. The Steelers open camp on July 31 so there is a chance we may have to wait until then for confirmation on the injury and how they intend to adjust the line. ( RotoWire - Wed. Jul 15, 2009) |
News: Holmes' son has sickle-cell disease, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. [+]
Impact: Holmes found out in May that he himself has the sickle-cell trait but not the disease (teammate Ryan Clark also carries the trait). "My seven-year-old is doing a lot better. He's healthy. It's almost to the point it can be controlled," the wide receiver was quoted. ( RotoWire - Jul 12, 2009) |
News: Holmes has bulked up in the offseason in hopes of adding strength to counter physical defensive backs, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. [+]
Impact: "I'm going to face a lot more bigger corners this year...I've got to get off those jams and separate myself from those guys," he was quoted. He weighed in at 201 pounds Monday, but expects to play around 195 for the season. Holmes knows he will be the primary receiving option this year and as long as he doesn't lose any speed, it's a smart move to improve his strength and conditioning. ( RotoWire - Tue. News: The Patriots have signed Brace to a four-year deal with approximately $2.82 million in guarantees, the Boston Globe reports. [+]
Impact: Brace provides insurance, both short and long term, for stud nose tackle Vince Wilfork, who is in the last year of his contract. ( RotoWire - Fri. Jul 17, 2009) |
News: The Patriots have signed Tate (knee), the Boston Globe reports. His contract is reportedly for four years with a $755,000 signing bonus. [+]
Impact: He's still recovering from a major knee injury that shortened his senior season, but the Pats decided that his upside as a wideout/returner outweighed any injury or character concerns (he tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Scouting Combine) attached to him. The Patriots are pretty deep at receiver, so it wouldn't surprise us if they bring him along slowly and end up placing him either on the PUP list or IR to start the season. ( RotoWire - Thu. Jul 16, 2009) |
News: The Patriots have signed Butler. [+]
Impact: The 5-foot-10, 185-pound cornerback was a first-team All-Big East pick as a senior at Connecticut in 2008. He finished his college career with 125 total tackles and 10 interceptions. He was taken with the 41st pick overall. ( STATS - Mon. Jul 13, 2009) | |
