News: Freeman is back on the practice field, feeling good about himself and the future of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The fifth-year pro who's entering the final season of his contract said Monday that he still considers the Bucs his team to guide to the playoffs, despite the club's decision to draft another young quarterback to potentially take his place. [+]
Impact: Just importantly, coach Greg Schiano reiterated Freeman is his starter before making another attempt to dispel what he said is a misconception about his desire to increase competition at virtually every position, including quarterback. Freeman became Tampa Bay's first 4,000-yard passer a year ago, however his inconsistency contributed to a 7-9 finish and energized speculation about his future with the team. ( STATS - Mon. News: Bucs coach Greg Schiano has always been a huge Glennon fan, Dan Pompeii of the National Football Post reports. [+]
Impact: Schiano, who tried to recruit Glennon to play at Rutgers when he was the coach there in 2007, feels that Glennon has a bright future, and it seems he is looking for him to push incumbent starting QB Josh Freeman and possibly replace him in the future. ( RotoWire - Mon. May 20, 2013) |
News: Coach Greg Schiano indicated that Freeman was sharp at Monday's OTAs, while displaying very good command and focus. [+]
Impact: Moreover, Schiano noted that Freeman has a better grasp on the Bucs' offense after a year in the current scheme, while adding that he doesn't think Freeman is bothered by talk of competition for his job. "He knows this is his team," said Schiano. There had been whispers that rookie Mike Glennon might be in the mix to overtake Freeman, but while Schiano will no doubt encourage a competitive preseason atmosphere, the QB job remains Freeman's to lose. News: Griffin (knee) is ahead of schedule in his rehab, but general manager Bruce Allen said it's "too early to tell" if he will be ready for training camp, The Washington Post reports. [+]
Impact: At this point, any timetable given for Griffin's return is just speculation. There should be a better idea of his status once he undergoes a physical on July 25, which is the start date of training camp. ( RotoWire - Tue. May 21, 2013) |
News: The Redskins' running back pecking order behind Morris has yet to be determined, csnwashington.com reports. [+]
Impact: The report suggests that the key upcoming positional battles on that front appear to be Evan Royster against (228th overall pick) Jawan Jamison, along with Roy Helu against fifth-rounder Chris Thompson. In any case, until there is more clarity with regards to how the team's RB depth will shake out, it's going to be difficult for early drafters to accurately peg the team's depth options behind Morris. ( RotoWire - May 19, 2013) |
News: The Washington Redskins have signed Thomas, a safety from Fresno State who led major college football with eight interceptions last season. The Redskins announced the deal Friday. [+]
Impact: Thomas, a first-team AP All-American, was the 119th overall selection in last month's NFL draft. He sat out the 2011 season with a broken left leg and dislocated ankle. ( STATS - Fri. May 17, 2013) | |
