News: Freeman is back on the practice field, feeling good about himself and the future of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The fifth-year pro who's entering the final season of his contract said Monday that he still considers the Bucs his team to guide to the playoffs, despite the club's decision to draft another young quarterback to potentially take his place. [+]
Impact: Just importantly, coach Greg Schiano reiterated Freeman is his starter before making another attempt to dispel what he said is a misconception about his desire to increase competition at virtually every position, including quarterback. Freeman became Tampa Bay's first 4,000-yard passer a year ago, however his inconsistency contributed to a 7-9 finish and energized speculation about his future with the team. ( STATS - Mon. News: Bucs coach Greg Schiano has always been a huge Glennon fan, Dan Pompeii of the National Football Post reports. [+]
Impact: Schiano, who tried to recruit Glennon to play at Rutgers when he was the coach there in 2007, feels that Glennon has a bright future, and it seems he is looking for him to push incumbent starting QB Josh Freeman and possibly replace him in the future. ( RotoWire - Mon. May 20, 2013) |
News: Coach Greg Schiano indicated that Freeman was sharp at Monday's OTAs, while displaying very good command and focus. [+]
Impact: Moreover, Schiano noted that Freeman has a better grasp on the Bucs' offense after a year in the current scheme, while adding that he doesn't think Freeman is bothered by talk of competition for his job. "He knows this is his team," said Schiano. There had been whispers that rookie Mike Glennon might be in the mix to overtake Freeman, but while Schiano will no doubt encourage a competitive preseason atmosphere, the QB job remains Freeman's to lose. Josh Cribbs (OAK - WR) News: Cribbs (knee) did not practice Monday, Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reports. [+]
Impact: Cribbs underwent surgery earlier this offseason to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, and at this point, it's uncertain when he'll be able to get on the practice field. ( RotoWire - Tue. May 21, 2013) |
|
Latavius Murray (OAK - RB) News: Murray has shown to be "decisive, fast, determined" in the early going of OTAs, according to Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times. [+]
Impact: The Raiders' sixth-round pick has reportedly impressed thus far, and he will be a player to keep an eye on this summer as he doesn't exactly have formidable competition behind top back Darren McFadden. ( RotoWire - Tue. May 21, 2013) |
|
David Ausberry (OAK - TE) News: Ausberry has been seeing "a ton of action" in the early going of OTAs, according to Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times. [+]
Impact: Ausberry, who caught just seven passes for 92 yards last season while playing behind Brandon Myers, has reportedly been getting a lot of work thus far in OTAs. Now that Myers is out of town, it looks like the 25-year-old Ausberry will have a chance to earn the starting tight end job. ( RotoWire - Tue. May 21, 2013) | |
