News: Through all the spring practices Rian Lindell has been more accurate than rookie kicker Hopkins, whom the Bills drafted in the sixth round in April, BuffaloBills.com reports. [+]
Impact: This should be one of the more interesting kicking battles this summer, and it's probably far from over. Lindell has tons of experience, has always been considered reliable, and goes back with the Bills all the way to 2003. However, his leg doesn't have nearly the boom as some of the league's younger kickers like Hopkins can offer, plus this is a brand new coaching staff that doesn't have the same loyalty to Lindell. Hopkins also had a fantastic college career at Florida State, and was the second kicker drafted in April. It also helps that Hopkins is a teammate of Bills punter and holder Shawn Powell. News: Alonso, the 46th overall pick in April's draft, has been getting "a ton of snaps" and first-unit looks in offseason workouts, and it appears the team's new coaching staff is targeting him for a starting inside linebacker job, BuffaloBills.com reports. [+]
Impact: The Bills don't seem like they're going to run a straight-up defense like last season and instead will be going with varying 3-4 and 4-3 looks while constantly moving players around, so ultimately snap count will be the determinant of IDP value in what appears to be an aggressive defense. The linebacker unit probably had the most holes to fill in the Buffalo defense this offseason, so there's a golden opportunity here for an aggressive player like Alonso to make his mark early.
