News: Sharpton has still not been cleared to play since landing on IR with a hip injury in January, the Houston Chronicle reports. [+]
Impact: Sharpton is still recovering from the injury and is not able to participate in offseason activities. It doesn't sound like he will be ready for OTAs, which start Monday. ( RotoWire - Fri. May 17, 2013) |
News: Reed underwent surgery on an undisclosed area this offseason, the Houston Chronicle reports. [+]
Impact: Reed missed four games due to a torn groin last season, so it's possible this was addressed by the surgery. This is not supposed to prevent Reed from participating in OTAs, which begin Monday. ( RotoWire - Fri. May 17, 2013) |
News: Bullock said he's 100 percent recovered from the groin tear that cost him all of his rookie season. [+]
Impact: Prior to suffering the injury, Bullock was projected by many to rank among the league's top scoring kickers, if only because of his being flanked by a top-tier offense that would theoretically present many opportunities to rack up points. Despite the injury setback last season, a similar outlook beacons for Bullock in 2013 if he proves accurate in training camp. ( RotoWire - Wed. May 15, 2013) | |

Dwight Freeney (IND - LB) News: The San Diego Chargers have agreed to a two-year deal with star pass rusher Dwight Freeney that could be worth $13.35 million. The deal to bring Freeney to the Chargers came four days after outside linebacker Melvin Ingram tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a padless practice. The addition of Freeney also helps cushion the loss of outside linebackers Antwan Barnes and Shaun Phillips to free agency. [+]
Impact: Freeney, 33, entering his 12th season, was Indianapolis' career sacks leader before the Colts decided not to re-sign him in the offseason. His sacks totals declined each of the past three years. Chargers rookie general manager Tom Telesco was with the Colts before being hired by San Diego in January. ( STATS - Sat. May 18, 2013) |
News: While Brown is healthy after a season-ending ankle injury last year, he enters training camp behind Vick Ballard on the depth chart, ESPN reports. "At this point, yeah, [Ballard's] sitting there as the lead guy. But Donnie's in great shape and healthy and looks fantastic to this point in the offseason program," head coach Chuck Pagano said. [+]
Impact: Brown played just 10 games last season as he missed time after surgery to repair torn cartilage in his knee and then had a season-ending ankle injury. It's good to hear he's healthy, but his struggles to establish himself as an every-down back the past three seasons may mean he's set for a more limited third-down or change-of-pace role this season. ( RotoWire - Wed. May 15, 2013) |
News: Head coach Chuck Pagano says Ballard enters training camp as Indy's top running back. "It's always nice to have a couple guys, a change of pace guy," Pagano told ESPN. "But certainly at the end of the year with Donnie [Donald Brown] hurt and the way Vick came on and the way he was running, he was getting the lion's share of the snaps. At this point, yeah, he's sitting there as the lead guy. But Donnie's in great shape and healthy and looks fantastic to this point in the offseason program." [+]
Impact: Ballard started the last 12 games last season after Brown missed time with knee and ankle injuries. It looks like Ballard will be the starter, with Brown as the change-of-pace and/or third-down back. The backfield picture could change and Delone Carter could also figure into the mix as a short-yardage specialist, but Pagano's comments seem to indicate Ballard will get the bulk of carries.
