News: Though Bryant is a few short weeks from becoming a free agent, the Buccaneers nor Bryant's representatives have had any contact, the St. Petersburg Times reports. [+]
Impact: This doesn't necessarily mean the team has made up their minds about Bryant. But it does suggest they fully intend to let him hit the market in early March before committing to anything long term. Bryant is seeking a multi-year deal with significant guarantees, but it's unclear how much the Buccaneers are willing to devote to him given the disappointing year Bryant had as their franchise-tag player in 2009. Bryant had only 39 catches for 600 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games played while making just under $10 million in 2009. ( RotoWire - Jan 31, 2010) |
News: Improving Freeman's accuracy will a big focus this offseason for the Buccaneers', the St. Petersburg Times reports. [+]
Impact: Greg Olson, the Buccaneers' offensive coordinator, says this offseason is a critical time for Freeman. Among the first tasks will be improving Freeman's accuracy. At 54.6% Freeman had a better completion percentage than fellow rookies Matthew Stafford (Lions, 53.3%) and Mark Sanchez (Jets, 53.8%). That being said, getting Freeman's completion percentage up will be key his development as a quarterback and for improving his fantasy potential. ( RotoWire - Tue. Jan 26, 2010) |
News: The Buccaneers are planning on hiring a quarterbacks coach this offseason, in part to help the development of Freeman, the St. Petersburg Times reports. [+]
Impact: Greg Olson was originally the team's quarterbacks coach heading into the 2009 season but became the team's offensive coordinator right before the season started and will continue in that role in 2010. Freeman is not quite a fantasy prospect at quarterback yet, but getting a position coach on board should only help the promising young talent. ( RotoWire - Jan 24, 2010)

News: Phillips is ahead of schedule in his rehab from knee surgery, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. He won't start running until March 29, but barring a setback should be ready for training camp. [+]
Impact: Phillips' return to form is a key to the Giants' ability to rebuild their defense. ( RotoWire - Tue. Feb 9, 2010) |
News: The Giants have have been awarded Taylor off waivers from Denver. [+]
Impact: Taylor was originally a sixth-round draft choice by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2007. In two seasons with the Chiefs, Taylor played in 18 games with one start. Although he has primarily played left tackle in this career, has also filled in at the guard and tackle spots on the right side. Taylor was waived by Kansas City on Sept. 4 and signed by Denver on Dec. 9. He was on the active roster for one game but did not play. ( STATS - Mon. Feb 8, 2010) |
News: Jacobs underwent surgery to repair the torn meniscus cartilage in his right knee, the NY Daily News reports. [+]
Impact: Jacobs said everything feels good in his knee after the surgery, but he wishes he would have had the surgery early in the season instead of trying to play through the pain. "I would've got it done Week 1 and missed four or five weeks and came back and played. As the year went on I thought it was going to get better. But when I figured out it wasn't going to get better, it was too late. So I just kept going." Jacobs managed to rush for just 835 yards, five touchdowns and a 3.7 YPC average during the season. He should be healthy heading into the 2010 season. ( RotoWire - Fri. Feb 5, 2010)
