News: Due $2.95 million in 2010, Nathan Vasher will most likely be released, according to the Chicago Tribune. [+]
Impact: He finished up 2009 as barely a part-time contributor, and just isn't worth the money anymore. Perhaps a change of scenery will do him well, but for the moment, he won't be worth a look in IDP leagues next season. ( Fanball - Tue. Feb 9, 2010) |
News: Hillenmeyer is among more than a dozen NFL players who have pledged to donate their brain and spinal cord tissue for concussion research. [+]
Impact: In December, the NFL and its players association said they would support the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at Boston University School of Medicine's research and encouraged players to participate. The NFL said it was willing to give $1 million or more to the center. ( STATS - Mon. Feb 1, 2010) |
News: Forte underwent arthroscopic left knee surgery within the last two weeks, ESPN reports. [+]
Impact: This is more of a clean-up procedure and Forte should be fine by the time the summer rolls around. It could also explain his big drop-off this year, as he sprained his left knee in Week 3 and seemed to struggle for much of the season, finishing with just 929 rushing yards. Perhaps a healthier Forte will be like the 2008 Forte, though it remains to be seen if there's room enough for Forte and Jay Cutler to both be their productive selves while sharing a backfield. News: Ellison, who missed half the 2009 season with a quad injury, may not be a fit in the Bills' new defensive scheme, which initially calls for a 3-4 base, BuffaloBills.com reports. [+]
Impact: Ellison has been written off many times before and he always seems to come around -- he was actually fourth on the team in tackles despite missing eight games -- but this time almost the entire coaching staff will be new. Plus, he's always been undersized, and because he's not much of a pass rusher, there may not be a home for him in the new-look defense. How the Bills draft in April could be a big indicator of their plans for Ellison. ( RotoWire - Mon. Feb 8, 2010) |
News: The Bills hired George Edwards as their defensive coordinator on Thursday, which could have implications for Maybin. [+]
Impact: Edwards plans on rolling with a 3-4 defense, at least to start, something the Bills haven't used in a very long time. That could mean more opportunities for Maybin, who many see as an ideal hybrid guy with the ability to rush the passer in a 3-4. He was so awful in his rookie season that it's tough to put him on the IDP radar just because of a coaching change, but it's worth noting that this season he'll get in a full training camp (he was a holdout in 2009), and Edwards may try to find a key role for the very athletic Maybin, perhaps as more of an outside linebacker/pass rusher. ( RotoWire - Thu. Feb 4, 2010) |
News: The Bengals' Chad Ochocinco has spent Super Bowl week trying to recruit Owens to sign with them once he becomes a free agent in March, the Bengals' official site reports. [+]
Impact: Of course, the team itself can't make contact with Owens yet, so this is the furthest you can get from being locked in. ( RotoWire - Thu. Feb 4, 2010) | |
