News: According to Aaron Wilson on Twitter, Ravens tight end Quinn Sypniewski underwent a minor followup surgery on his injured left knee. [+]
Impact: Sypniewski has now had three surgeries since originally injuring the knee in 2008 training camp. He was a fine blocker before the injury, but was never an offensive or fantasy option. Now he'll struggle just to get a shot in next season's training camp. ( Fanball - Tue. Feb 9, 2010) |
News: Reed said that the nerve impingement in his neck has gotten worse, the Baltimore Sun reports. [+]
Impact: Reed previously had said that he's 50-50 to retire this offseason. This news might push him further in that direction. ( RotoWire - Sat. Feb 6, 2010) |
News: Birk is among more than a dozen NFL players who have pledged to donate their brain and spinal cord tissue for concussion research. [+]
Impact: In December, the NFL and its players association said they would support the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at Boston University School of Medicine's research and encouraged players to participate. The NFL said it was willing to give $1 million or more to the center. ( STATS - Mon. Feb 1, 2010)

News: There is a lot more than wins and losses riding on Favre's decision on whether to play a second season for the Minnesota Vikings. Favre's first season in Minnesota was a banner year in more ways than one. The Vikings won 12 games in the regular season and came achingly close to advancing to the Super Bowl. [+]
Impact: It was also a big year for the Vikings on the business side. Team officials say Favre's presence, and success, helped sell tickets and generated revenue from merchandise sales and sponsorship deals. Marketing experts say Favre is one of the most recognizable athletes in the country. But another offseason of waffling could hurt his reputation with consumers and ultimately force companies to look elsewhere for endorsers. ( STATS - Tue. Feb 2, 2010) |
News: McKinnie has been dismissed from the NFC Pro Bowl team for unexcused absences. [+]
Impact: The NFL said McKinnie missed practice Friday and Saturday and is subject to a fine. His agent didn't respond to messages seeking comment. This was the first Pro Bowl selection for McKinnie, whose Vikings lost to New Orleans in the NFC championship last Sunday. ( STATS - Sat. Jan 30, 2010) |
News: Rosenfels was the only player on Minnesota's active roster all season who didn't appear in a game. Rosenfels was able to learn a lot about the quarterback position from Brett Favre, though. Because of that and the team's run to the NFC championship game, Rosenfels says his first year with the Vikings was still fun from the sideline. [+]
Impact: Rosenfels and fellow backup Tarvaris Jackson are in limbo again - just like they were last summer while Favre was deliberating.Rosenfels said Thursday in a phone interview with The Associated Press that he isn't concerned about what he can't control. He says he hasn't thought about requesting a trade. ( STATS - Thu. Jan 28, 2010)
