News: Warner is still winning awards. He picked up the NFL's Bart Starr Award this weekend, recognizing his leadership and work in the community. [+]
Impact: Warner and his wife, Brenda, established the First Things First Foundation in 2001, working with sick children and single parents, plus sending care packages to military personnel serving overseas. The couple is also involved in other charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Special Olympics. Warner announced his retirement last month, ending a 12-year career. A year ago, he was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year. ( STATS - Sun. Feb 7, 2010) |
News: Among Arizona's four starting linebackers, Hayes is one of only two that is under contract for the 2010 season. [+]
Impact: The Cardinals will probably lose Karlos Dansby and Chike Okeafor to free agency this offseason. Hayes may be asked to assume a larger role in 2010, since Dansby's departure would leave a substantial void. Hayes is usually a decent tackler, but a back injury curtailed his 2009 production, and he's not a great IDP option because he has zero interceptions and 0.5 sacks over the last two seasons. ( RotoWire - Fri. Feb 5, 2010) |
News: Breaston probably won't return punts in 2010 if his teammate Anquan Boldin is traded this offseason, the Arizona Republic reports. [+]
Impact: If Boldin leaves, Breaston would step into a starting wide receiver role, and the Cardinals wouldn't want to overload him with special teams duties. We think that a Boldin trade is less likely now that the Cardinals have already lost one potent offensive weapon this offseason, due to the retirement of starting quarterback Kurt Warner. Breaston would be a much more desirable receiver if Boldin is traded. He hasn't done very much as a punt returner over the last two seasons; he averaged 6.9 yards on 71 returns and didn't score any special teams touchdowns. ( RotoWire - Fri. Feb 5, 2010) | |

News: Due $2.95 million in 2010, Nathan Vasher will most likely be released, according to the Chicago Tribune. [+]
Impact: He finished up 2009 as barely a part-time contributor, and just isn't worth the money anymore. Perhaps a change of scenery will do him well, but for the moment, he won't be worth a look in IDP leagues next season. ( Fanball - Tue. Feb 9, 2010) |
News: Hillenmeyer is among more than a dozen NFL players who have pledged to donate their brain and spinal cord tissue for concussion research. [+]
Impact: In December, the NFL and its players association said they would support the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at Boston University School of Medicine's research and encouraged players to participate. The NFL said it was willing to give $1 million or more to the center. ( STATS - Mon. Feb 1, 2010) |
News: Forte underwent arthroscopic left knee surgery within the last two weeks, ESPN reports. [+]
Impact: This is more of a clean-up procedure and Forte should be fine by the time the summer rolls around. It could also explain his big drop-off this year, as he sprained his left knee in Week 3 and seemed to struggle for much of the season, finishing with just 929 rushing yards. Perhaps a healthier Forte will be like the 2008 Forte, though it remains to be seen if there's room enough for Forte and Jay Cutler to both be their productive selves while sharing a backfield.
