News: Peppers no longer wants a long-term contract with Carolina, saying the Panthers have ignored him this offseason. In an interview aired Tuesday morning on Charlotte radio station WFNZ-AM, the five-time Pro Bowl defensive end indicated he's irritated by the team's ``silence'' and has changed his stance on whether he wants to continue his career in Carolina. [+]
Impact: While agent Carl Carey said last week he believes the Panthers aren't interested in retaining Peppers, Carolina's career sacks leader, team officials haven't announced their plans for the impending free agent. General manager Marty Hurney didn't immediately return a phone message Tuesday. ``How can you say you want to be somewhere when you're not really sure if they want you there because they're not even talking to you?'' Peppers said. ( STATS - Tue. Feb 9, 2010) |
News: McCown, who ended the year on injured reserve after suffering a broken ankle, is unlikely to return to the Panthers in 2010, the Gaston Gazette reports. [+]
Impact: With Jake Delhomme carrying a large contract and Matt Moore playing very well at the end of the season, McCown will likely sign elsewhere with an opportunity to compete for a No. 2 quarterback spot. The Panthers will likely draft another quarterback to hold the clipboard as their No. 3 option. ( RotoWire - Wed. Feb 3, 2010) |
News: Wesley, who can become an unrestricted free agent on March 5, could return to the Panthers for the 2010 season, the Gaston Gazette reports. [+]
Impact: He's more of a special teams guy and hybrid defensive back/linebacker option for defensive coordinator Ron Meeks, which means that he's more valuable to the Panthers than he is to fantasy owners. ( RotoWire - Wed. Feb 3, 2010) | |

News: The Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints are celebrating Mardi Gras-style. Brees and other players were throwing beads into the crowds as confetti floated in the air. One float carried an oversized replica of the Super Bowl trophy. [+]
Impact: Carnival floats carrying players, coaches and team owner Tom Benson started rolling through downtown New Orleans for a victory parade Tuesday. Brees was named game MVP as the Saints' 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts capped just the ninth winning season in the team's 43-year history. ( STATS - Tue. Feb 9, 2010) |
News: Hamilton did not play in the Saints' Super Bowl victory Sunday and finished the year with modest numbers as the Saints' third/fourth running back this year. [+]
Impact: Hamilton did not see the field much behind Pierre Thomas, Mike Bell, and Reggie Bush. Much of his value next year will be determined this offseason and what the Saints decide to do with Bush and Bell. Regardless, Hamilton will likely be the backup behind Pierre Thomas even in the best-case scenario ( RotoWire - Tue. Feb 9, 2010) |
News: Meachem caught only two passes for six yards in Sunday's Super Bowl victory for New Orleans. [+]
Impact: Meachem excelled in his third year at wide out for the Saints. He finished with over 700 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, most of those numbers accumulating in the second half of the season. As a receiver on the top offense in the league, Meachem likely shed his fantasy sleeper label and will be a fairly high draft pick next year so long as he is able to rise above the clutter at wide receiver in the Saints' offense.
