NFL 5 2020 Predicting the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame class 31528454 Who's in this year? Who%27s+in+this+year%3F NFL

The Pro Football Hall of Fame released its 17 finalists for this year’s class on Jan. 11. On the Saturday before Super Bowl XLVII, some of the most esteemed and respected journalists covering the game will join in one room and vote upon the inductees. Only five can get in along with two additional senior candidates. This year’s final 17 is one of the deepest class of finalists we’ve seen in recent history. I do not have a vote (someday, maybe), but if I did — here would be my seven.

"Eddie D" may get in down the road, but I think Modell goes in before him.

I think the ship has sailed for Andre Reed. Too many other receivers up for induction in the coming years. Not enough public push to get him in.

Crowded class. If he didn’t get in last year in a weaker Hall of Fame class of finalists, I don’t see him getting in this year.

I think he’ll get in soon. I just don’t know if he’s a first-year guy. If I’m reading the tea leaves correctly, based on some of his contemporaries, he’ll likely get in come Year 2 or 3 on the ballot.

A league owner from 1961 to 2004, Modell saw the league through all of its eras, right up until its current one we see flourishing today. Not the most popular man in Cleveland, Modell moved the team in 1995 to Baltimore and then renamed the team the Baltimore Ravens. He saw just one Super Bowl victory (in 2000), but was one of the leading voices and influences for the league through its formative period. There weren’t many Art Modells in the game’s history. There may never be another one like him. The game isn’t what it is today without his fingerprints all over it for nearly five decades. All that being said, he's still not getting in this year.

NFL 5 2020 Predicting the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame class 31530178 Jerome Bettis — OUT Jerome+Bettis+%26mdash%3B+OUT NFL

A six-time Pro Bowler, a three-time All-Pro, the 1996 winner of the Comeback Player of the Year award, a Super Bowl champion, and the sixth leading rusher in NFL history, Jerome Bettis is worthy of Hall of Fame induction. The heart and soul of the Steelers for more than a decade, Bettis was a winner and a warrior. A throwback to a bygone era, he may be the last, great “power back”. He missed out last year and I think he barely misses out again.

Haley’s been up for Pro Football Hall of Fame induction for a few years now, and I think this is the year he gets in. The only player in NFL history with five Super Bowl rings, Haley was one of the more dominant defensive players of his era. He was a handful for the media, but that shouldn’t matter. He was unblockable at times and was a winner everywhere he played. Haley wasn’t always a pleasure to be around off the field. On it, he was a nightmare for opposing teams. He’d be in if it were up to me. It’s not.

This will be Carter’s fourth time on the ballot and this time, I think he gets in. If he doesn’t, he may never. In the next five to 10 years, Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce and, eventually, Randy Moss, will all be up for induction. After that crop, there’s a whole new generation of guys who may eventually break all these records, including Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson and Wes Welker. Carter’s numbers hold up now, but they won’t for long. Though I’m told he wasn’t the most popular player to cover, I think the voters get him in this time around. When he retired, he was the NFL’s second all-time in receptions and touchdowns by a receiver. He was one of the best receivers of his era. He belongs in Canton.

Ogden wasn’t just the best offensive tackle of his generation, he’s arguably the best offensive tackle I’ve ever seen anchor a line. In 12 seasons, he went to 11 Pro Bowls, was a nine-time All-Pro, and won a Super Bowl in 2000. A member of the same draft class as Ray Lewis in 1996, Ogden was a rock for the Ravens for more than a decade. He played in 177 games, starting 176 of them. Ogden — all 6-foot-7 of him — should be in a yellow jacket come August.

Allen is a slam dunk, no-brainer first-ballot guy. A member of the league’s 1990s and 2000s All-Decade teams, he was an 11-time Pro Bowler and a seven-time first-team All-Pro. He played in 203 games, starting 197 of them, and was the widely considered the strongest man in the NFL for nearly two decades. A Super Bowl champion in 1995 and one of the rare talents who dominated both at tackle and at guard. Ask any player that ran or threw passes behind him or went up against him, and they’ll all agree — Larry Allen is a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

This isn’t just typical FOX Sports bias. Strahan’s a first-ballot guy to me. In addition to being the record holder for most sacks in a single season (22.5 in 2001), he was the heart and soul of a Giants defense that won a Super Bowl, two NFC Championships and played in 10 postseason games. Strahan is the Giants’ career sack leader and was a member of the NFL’s All Decade team in the 2000’s. The Defensive Player of the Year in 2001 and a 7-time Pro Bowler, the accolades are all there. The recognition will come in February.
