NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235569 The NFL's best QB-WR combos The+NFL%27s+best+QB-WR+combos NFL Coming off of one and a half uninspiring seasons as a Cowboy, Roy Williams is looking for change ... and it all starts with holding on to the ball. Williams, who has the dubious distinction of being a league leader in drops, is looking for a fresh start to 2010 – even saying he and QB Tony Romo “are connecting like Montana and Rice.” While Cowboy fans will be ecstatic if Williams’ performance is more reminiscent of Montana’s supporting receiver John Taylor, let’s look at the top 10 QB-WR duos entering 2010. -- Mike Funke, FOXSportsSouthwest.com Jim McIsaac - Getty Images http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery-Intro-JW_20100526185139_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery-Intro-JW_20100526185139_70_70.JPG
NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235540 Matt Schaub to Andre Johnson, Houston Texans Matt+Schaub+to+Andre+Johnson%2C+Houston+Texans NFL Over the last two seasons, no QB/WR combination's been as prolific as the duo from Houston. True, Johnson’s numbers have slipped from his 115-reception, 1,575-yard, eight-touchdown performance from 2008, but they haven’t slipped that much. Last year, while facing the majority of double teams, Johnson recorded 101 catches for a league-high 1,569 yards and nine scores. Hopefully, his recent contract dispute won’t get in the way of another 1,500-yard season. -- Mike Funke, FOXSportsSouthwest.com Bob Levey - Getty Images http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery1-JW_20100526185148_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery1-JW_20100526185148_70_70.JPG
NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235514 Tom Brady to Randy Moss, New England Patriots Tom+Brady+to+Randy+Moss%2C+New+England+Patriots NFL Coming off major knee surgery in 2008, Brady picked up where he and Moss left off in 2007 -- the season where Moss set the single-season TD record (23). In '09, the dynamic duo hooked up for 83 receptions, 1,264 yards and 12 touchdowns. Moss now has 148 for his career. If he continues at his current pace, he's just four seasons away from tying Rice’s NFL record of 197. When Brady's healthy and Moss is inspired, no combo in the NFL is as dangerous. -- Mike Funke, FOXSportsSouthwest.com Elsa - Getty Images http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery2-JW_20100526185148_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery2-JW_20100526185148_70_70.JPG
NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235570 Peyton Manning to Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts Peyton+Manning+to+Reggie+Wayne%2C+Indianapolis+Colts NFL When recording 100 receptions for 1,264 yards and 10 TDs while leading your team to a near perfect season and a berth in the Super Bowl is considered a “down” year, you’re definitely a top-five receiver in the league. While not as prolific as the Manning/Marvin Harrison duo, this one isn't far off. Over the last three years, they've accumulated nearly 300 catches, 4,000 yards and 26 TDs. While the 26 scores pales in comparison to Moss’ 23 in '07, Wayne does have one accolade Moss lacks … a Super Bowl ring. -- Mike Funke, FOXSportsSouthwest.com Doug Benc - Getty Images http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery3-JW_20100526185148_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery3-JW_20100526185148_70_70.JPG
NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235515 Tony Romo to Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys Tony+Romo+to+Miles+Austin%2C+Dallas+Cowboys NFL With the release of Terrell Owens, Austin became the No. 3 receiver on the Cowboys' depth chart to start the 2009 season. It only took head coach Wade Phillips four weeks to realize what they had -- a game-breaking Pro Bowl receiver who'd break franchise records. In only his first start as a replacement for the injured Roy Williams, Austin set a Cowboys record with 250 yards on 10 catches and two TDs against the Chiefs. Romo and Austin recorded 81 receptions for an NFC-best 1,320 yards and 11 TDs. NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235622 Tom Brady to Wes Welker, New England Patriots Tom+Brady+to+Wes+Welker%2C+New+England+Patriots NFL Over the last three seasons, no receiver in the NFL has more receptions than Welker (346). Last year, despite playing only 14 games and only one quarter in a week 17 loss against Houston, Welker was still able to accumulate a league-high 123 catches for 1,348 yards, second only to Andre Johnson. So, why isn’t Welker higher on this list? One word: injuries. After tearing his ACL and MCL against the Texans, the jury's still out on his ability to recover in time for the season, not to mention play at the same level. -- Mike Funke, FOXSportsSouthwest.com Elsa - Getty Images http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery5-JW_20100526185456_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery5-JW_20100526185456_70_70.JPG
NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235623 Drew Brees to Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints Drew+Brees+to+Marques+Colston%2C+New+Orleans+Saints NFL Colston was a seventh-round pick in the Reggie Bush draft of 2006. Brees was an injured castoff by a San Diego team going in another direction. Together they've become arguably the most consistent QB/WR duo in the NFC the last four seasons. A perennial 1,000-yard receiver and the highest rated passer in the NFL, Brees and Colston have brought the Saints their first Super Bowl in franchise history -- all while bringing newfound life to a city once stricken by the unimaginable. NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235517 Matt Ryan to Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons Matt+Ryan+to+Roddy+White%2C+Atlanta+Falcons NFL Once considered an NFL bust after two lackluster seasons to start his career, White's quickly become a major force in the NFC. After facing life without the one-time face of the franchise, Ryan's turned around the Falcons and made them a perennial playoff contender. In only two years, the two have recorded back to back 85-plus reception, 1,100-yard seasons and have made Atlanta fans forget about that Michael Vick guy. -- Mike Funke, FOXSportsSouthwest.com Kevin C. NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235628 Brett Favre to Sidney Rice, Minnesota Vikings Brett+Favre+to+Sidney+Rice%2C+Minnesota+Vikings NFL If there's any doubt about the emergence of Sidney Rice as a vertical threat in the NFL, just look at his performance against the best defense in the NFL last year (torching the Ravens for 176 yards). In their only season together, Favre and Rice recorded over 1,300 yards in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and fell just a fourth quarter INT away from a trip to the Super Bowl. There's no question Rice is the player Favre looks to in the clutch. The only lingering question is, will Brett return this season? -- Mike Funke, FOXSportsSouthwest.com Stephen Dunn - Getty Images http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery8-JW_20100526185820_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery8-JW_20100526185820_70_70.JPG
NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235571 Eli Manning to Steve Smith, New York Giants Eli+Manning+to+Steve+Smith%2C+New+York+Giants NFL Only two years ago, the Giants were World Champions and Plaxico Burress was the most dangerous receiver on a team expected to return to the Super Bowl. How quickly that wall came crumbling down. After being sent to jail for two years, Plaxico left Manning without his star receiver and the Giants suffered a late season collapse. One season later, the “other” Manning found his go-to guy in the “other” Steve Smith. A franchise-record 107 receptions for 1,220 yards and seven TDs have made the Big Apple excited again. -- Mike Funke, FOXSportsSouthwest.com Nick Laham - Getty Images http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery9-JW_20100526185821_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery9-JW_20100526185821_70_70.JPG
NFL 5 43 Ranking the NFL's top 10 QB-WR duos 11235629 Aaron Rodgers to Greg Jennings, Green Bay Packers Aaron+Rodgers+to+Greg+Jennings%2C+Green+Bay+Packers NFL No Brett Favre, no problem for the Green Bay faithful. In only two seasons after replacing a legend, Rodgers has lead the Packers to an impressive late season run to the playoffs. Rodgers was fourth in the league in QB rating, including recording over 4,400 yards passing -- 1,113 of those going to Jennings. Many predict the Packers as the team to beat in the NFC this season, and it all starts with this 1-2 combo. -- Mike Funke, FOXSportsSouthwest.com Al Messerschmidt - Getty Images http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery10-JW_20100526185821_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/05/26/052610-NFL-Callback-Gallery10-JW_20100526185821_70_70.JPG
