The 49ers can't count on opponents going 1 for 10 on third-down conversions, as Cincy did. They need more offense, and Smith simply is not the 49ers' QB of the future. To make it worse for San Francisco fans, every time he wins (2-1 this year), he moves the 49ers further away from a chance to draft Andrew Luck, coach Jim Harbaugh's QB at Stanford last year.

OK, it didn't have the significance of The Drive. But give Browns fans something to hold onto. Quarterback Colt McCoy looked Elway-esque in directing Cleveland on the winning drive against Miami. The second-year pro was 9 of 13 for 80 yards on the drive. If success breeds success, that was an important moment in McCoy's development.

No shame in pushing the Saints to the brink at New Orleans, but the Texans have to win a few tough road games to really be as good as they seemed in the first two weeks. Ben Tate (pictured) filled in admirably for Arian Foster at running back with 82 yards, but the revamped Texans defense reverted to form as Drew Brees threw for 370 yards and three touchdowns.

This is the reincarnation of the old Black and Blue Division, aka the NFC Central. The clubs in the NFC East figure to pound on one another all season. The Giants got pushed around by the Redskins in Week 1 and returned the favor at Philadelphia on Sunday. Eagles quarterback Michael Vick came in with one injury and left with another as he faced constant harassment from the likes of defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (90).

How a team with a truly great running back, Adrian Peterson, can’t run out the clock is bewildering. The 0-3 Vikings have outscored opponents 54-7 before halftime and have been outscored 67-6 thereafter. The trend continued in a 26-23 overtime loss to Detroit, when a 20-0 lead vanished.

Sure, he got paid. And we're seeing No. 28 on the field for the Titans. But is that really Chris Johnson? The running back who held out during training camp had only 21 yards on 13 carries in Tennessee's 17-14 victory over Denver, and he has 98 yards rushing this season. That's usually a good half for him.

And, now, neither are the New England Patriots. Tom Brady threw four interceptions all of last season. He tossed that many against the Bills on Sunday. Buffalo capitalized to end a streak of 15 straight losses to the Patriots, improving to an unlikely 3-0 in the process.

The most highly pursued QB in the offseason was supposed to change the landscape in the NFC West. Well, after the Cardinals' lackluster 13-10 loss at Seattle on Sunday, Arizona is 1-2, tied with the Seahawks and trailing the 2-1 49ers. Kolb (pictured) did throw for 252 yards and score Sunday, but added two INTs and did nothing to erase the notion that the NFC West will again be the NFL's worst division.

You get the feeling Atlanta QB Matt Ryan (pictured with his helmet half-off) will spend some time covered in ice and soaking in the hot tub this week. Battered by the Bucs on Sunday to the tune of four sacks, Ryan led the Falcons to only one TD as the 2010 NFC South champs fell to 1-2 on the season and now head back to Atlanta, where their offense may be waiting for them at the airport, as it obviously failed to make the trip to Tampa Bay.

And the Chicago Bears aren't one of the horses. Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers (pictured) was his typically stellar self in Sunday's 27-17 victory at Chicago, throwing for 297 yards and three scores as the Super Bowl champs improved to 3-0. The Bears, meanwhile, fell to 1-2 and now trail both the Packers and the surging Detroit Lions by two games in the standings. If you are itching for the Pack and Lions to play for bragging rights, you'll have to wait a while — they don't face off until Thanksgiving in Detroit.

For years, Baltimore's defense has carried the franchise while the Ravens and their fans waited for the offense to catch up. If Sunday was any indication, that time may be here. Flacco connected with rookie receiver Torrey Smith for three scores covering a total of 133 yards — in the first quarter. Smith finished with 152 yards receiving and Flacco threw for 389 yards in the 37-7 blowout at St. Louis.

The Raiders pounded the previously unbeaten Jets on Sunday, 34-24, rushing for 234 yards, the most yards gained on the ground against New York in the Rex Ryan era. Riding the legs of Darren McFadden (171 yards, 2 TDs), the Raiders are 2-1 and welcome the Patriots next weekend.

Sure, the Chargers defeated the Chiefs 20-17 on Sunday to improve to 2-1 on the season. But their two victories have been less than impressive, QB Philip Rivers (pictured) did not throw a TD on Sunday, and the Chargers did not clinch the game until Matt Cassel threw a terrible INT late after a questionable fourth-down call by San Diego failed to seal the game. With the Raiders playing as well as they are, San Diego does not look like the hands-down favorite of the AFC West.

The Steelers may have won at Indianapolis on Sunday, but it was another long night for QB Ben Roethlisberger. He was sacked three times and lost a couple of more linemen to injury in the contest. After three games, the Steelers have been blown out by Baltimore, shut out lowly Seattle at home and barely escaped Indianapolis with a win despite the Colts being down to Curtis Painter at QB at the end of the game. Painter actually led the Colts to the game-tying TD in the fourth before Pittsburgh drove for the game-winning field goal in the 23-20 victory.
