This game features two units separated by just one point as the league’s top scoring defenses: The 49ers' 218 points allowed inches out the Seahawks' 219. San Francisco won the first matchup, forcing Russell Wilson into his worst game of the season in which he had just 122 yards and an interception. Colin Kaepernick hadn’t yet earned the starting role when these teams played and he could be the difference-maker in this game. He is coming off a game in which he went punch for punch with Tom Brady and Wilson isn’t Brady. The Seahawks may be the best home team in football, but the magic runs out against the 49ers who are looking to make a statement to the rest of the NFC. Pick: 49ers

Eli Manning and the Giants are coming off a Week 15 shutout loss to the Falcons, but that isn’t rare territory for New York this late in the season. In 2011, the Giants lost their Week 15 matchup against the Redskins and went on to win their next six games and a Super Bowl championship. Similarly, the Giants lost their game in Week 15 in 2010, finished 10-6 and fell short in the tie-breaking scenarios to reach the postseason. This year's Giants team is also losing all tie-breaking scenarios to all the other 8-6 teams and therefore needs to beat the Ravens for a chance at the playoffs. The Ravens can clinch the AFC North with a win but have lost three straight games for the first time since 2009 and are really starting to feel the effects of injuries. I wouldn’t bet against the Giants in this situation. Pick: Giants

The Bears, treading water that is getting deeper, are in real jeopardy of being eliminated from the playoffs after starting the season 7-1. A loss to the Cardinals combined with a Vikings win would do just that and isn’t far-fetched considering the Bears have lost five of their last six. The Bears are scoring half of what they averaged during the first eight games and are giving up exactly five more points per game. Even worse, the Bears who were plus-16 in turnover margin during the hot start, are minus-2 in the last six games. They have a chance to get back on track against a Cardinals team that has struggled to find any level of consistency at the quarterback position. Whether it is John Skelton or Ryan Lindley behind center, the Bears will look to force them into bad decisions, something each QB has done fairly often. Combined, the two have thrown 15 interceptions in just nine career starts. Pick: Bears

The Browns have won three of their last four and that is worth noting considering it took them 20 previous games to win three before this. Even with the recent success, the Browns are still 5-9 and that is three wins better than the Broncos' final opponent of the year, the Kansas City Chiefs. It will be interesting to see how the Broncos attack the final two games against teams with a combined seven wins on the season, especially if the Patriots lose and the Texans win this weekend, leaving the Broncos with no opportunity to better or worsen their playoff seed. If they play it straight, Peyton Manning will only increase his chances at a comeback player of the year award and MVP honors. Pick: Broncos

If the Rams can win out they will earn their first winning season since 2003 and that would be a huge compliment to a team that lacks superior talent. Sam Bradford is having his best year as a pro with career bests in completion percentage, average passing yards and touchdowns, and he is doing it with a less-than-stellar wide receiving unit. Josh Freeman appeared to be having his best NFL season as well, but has really struggled in his last five games and is coming off a performance last week in which he threw four interceptions. The edge in QB play in this matchup has to go to Bradford, not just because of Freeman’s recent struggles, but also because Tampa Bay currently ranks last in the entire league at defending the pass. Pick: Rams

The Steelers have won the last five meetings between these two teams, but there aren’t two teams in the NFL that are heading in more opposite directions. Pittsburgh has lost two straight and four of its last five games, turning the ball over at an alarming rate in that span. The 18 turnovers are more than eight other teams have turned the ball over for the whole season. On the other hand, the Bengals have won five of their last six and can clinch a spot in the playoffs with a win. Their recent success is due in large part to Andy Dalton, who is completing more than 60 percent of his passes and has a 12:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio in the last six games. Remember, though, Dalton has never beaten the Steelers in six attempts. Pick: Steelers

The Redskins enter the game in first place of the NFC East for the first time since 1999 season and I favor them to win out and secure the division title. Despite sitting RG3 with a knee injury, the Redskins were able to beat the Browns last week and have won five straight for the first time since 2005, with a chance to win six straight for the first time since 1996. Kirk Cousins did well in relief, but RG3 has been noting short of amazing in his last four games. He has completed 68.5 percent of his passes, averaged 228 yards per game and thrown for 10 touchdowns compared to just one interception for a passer rating of 134.5. The Eagles will also lean on two rookies to keep pace on offense, Nick Foles and Bryce Brown. Brown had 347 rushing yards in his first two starts but had just 40 last week. Pick: Redskins

In a league with nail-biting playoff scenarios, a close MVP race and five rookie quarterbacks that have taken the NFL by storm, we are still talking about ... the Jets' third-string quarterback. That is exactly what Tim Tebow is, but he still dominates the headlines. He will take a backseat Sunday to Greg McElroy, who will start over Mark Sanchez. McElroy has just seven NFL passing attempts, all coming in the Week 13 comeback win over the Cardinals that included a 10-play, 69-yard touchdown drive. As for the Chargers, it will be interesting to see how they play after a long cross-country road trip for a coach that by most accounts will not be returning next season. The Jets have played in some ugly games in this month, and this is sure to be another. Pick: Chargers

The Dolphins lead the all-time series 55-37-1 and are even better when hosting Buffalo at home, but the Bills have already beaten Miami earlier this season. They beat the Dolphins 19-14 in Week 11 without scoring a single offensive touchdown thanks to a an interception return for a score by Leodis McKelvin and four field goals from Rian Lindell. It should be another close game on Sunday, but I’ll take the Dolphins at home. Pick: Dolphins

Interim head coach Bruce Arians has done a masterful job with the Colts filling in for Chuck Pagano. Arians and the Colts have won seven of their last nine games and eight of their last 11 since Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia Oct. 1. Now the Colts can clinch a playoff berth with a win on Sunday and become the first team to make the playoffs coming off a two-win season since the Miami Dolphins in 2008. Additionally, Andrew Luck can set the single-season passing record for a rookie with just 74 more yards … a task that shouldn’t be all that difficult against the 18th-ranked defense in the league. Pick: Colts

The Patriots have never lost to the Jaguars in the regular season, going 6-0 in the all-time series. Tom Brady and New England have already clinched the AFC East, but they're still fighting for home-field advantage and a first-round bye. Historically, getting a higher seed has proved beneficial for the Patriots. In their nine previous playoff appearances, the Pats entered the playoffs as the No. 1 or 2 seed six times and reached the Super Bowl in five. In the other three instances, the Pats were a three seed or lower and failed to reach the Super Bowl in any of them. To better their seed, they first need to win out and also get help from the Broncos or Texans. The Jaguars aren’t even a speed bump in the entire equation. Pick: Patriots

The Vikings can neither clinch a berth nor be eliminated from the playoffs in Week 16, while the Texans can clinch a first-round bye with a win. But the draw of this game is less about the playoff implications and more about Adrian Peterson. Peterson has rushed for 1,313 yards over his last eight games, the best eight-game span in NFL history, and needs just 188 to post his frist 2,000-yard season. If he can increase that number to 294 yards, or an average of 147 yards over the final two games, he will top Eric Dickerson’s NFL record of 2,105 yards in a season. Though 147 yards per game is no small number, it seems like just another day at the office for a back averaging 192 over his last three games. Unfortunately for him, that office on Sunday will be in Houston against a team that is the fifth best in the NFL at stopping the run. Pick: Texans

Oddly enough, the Titans are 4-1 at Lambeau Field and lead the all-time series 6-4, but the Packers have won the last three and I don’t see it playing out any other way on Sunday. The NFL is a quarterback-driven league and these two starters are on opposite ends of the spectrum right now. Aaron Rodgers has thrown 77 touchdowns in the last two seasons and last week joined Dan Marino and Brett Favre as the only QBs to throw for 30 or more in three seasons before turning 30 years old. As for Jake Locker, he has won just three career starts and has thrown just three touchdowns compared to seven interceptions in his last four games. Pick: Packers

The Cowboys have won five of their last six games but have struggled recently in the head-to-head series against New Orleans. The Saints have won six of the last seven with the their last loss to the Cowboys in Week 15 of 2009. To change that, Tony Romo is going to have to continue to play at the high level he has been so far this December … something that has been historically tough for him to do. Romo is just 8-13 in the month throughout his career, but is 3-0 this season. The pressure of going stride for stride with Drew Brees in a must-win game with playoff implications may finally get to him. I like the Saints to pull off the upset. Pick: Saints

The Raiders brought in defensive-minded head coach, Dennis Allen, to improve a leaking defense, but in many ways it has taken yet another step back. The 2012 Raiders are giving up more points per game and have fewer sacks and takeaways than last year's team. Cam Newton will look to take advantage of that forgiving defense as he is playing as hot as ever with 10 touchdowns and an average of 261.6 passing yards over the last five games. He hasn’t been intercepted in 152 attempts, the longest active streak in the NFL. Not bad for a quarterback that also happens to lead his team in rushing. Pick: Panthers

The Falcons can clinch home-field advantage with a win this weekend, but Matt Ryan is just 22-17 on the road in his career (as opposed to 33-4 at home) and the desperate Lions won’t just roll over. The Lions are wrapping up a disappointing season, but any team with Calvin Johnson is capable of an upset at any time. Johnson has seven consecutive 100-yard receiving games and is on pace to to finish with more than 1,900 yards on the season, which would be an NFL record. The Falcons are coming off a shutout victory against the Giants, but should be prepared for a shootout in this one. Pick: Falcons
