Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, right, was hired Jan. 17 as the replacement for Mike Mularkey, dismissed by the NFL team after just one season.

Lovie Smith coached the Bears for nine seasons, made a Super Bowl appearance and left Chicago with an 81-63 overall record. Smith was fired by on Dec. 31 and wasn't replaced until Jan. 16, when Marc Trestman was brought in from the CFL as the Chicago's new head coach.

Ken Whisenhunt was part of the "Black Monday" firings on Dec. 31. Whisenhunt, who led the Cardinals to a Super Bowl appearance, finished with a 45-51 record over six seasons in Arizona. On Jan. 18, the Cardinals hired Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians as their new head coach.

The Eagles named Oregon's Chip Kelly the next head coach. Kelly replaces Andy Reid, who was fired after 14 seasons in Philadelphia.

Norv Turner was fired from the Chargers after the 7-9 team failed to make the playoffs for a third consecutive season. Overall, he had a 56-40 record in San Diego. He’s expected to be replaced by Mike McCoy, the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator that helped his team to the AFC Divisional round in 2012. McCoy, 40, not only helped orchestrate Peyton Manning’s comeback 2012 season, but also worked with Tim Tebow with the Broncos in 2011 assisting Denver to a playoff win and helped Kyle Orton to two of his best seasons during the 2009-10 Broncos’ campaigns.

Pat Shurmur was one of the coaches fired on the Dec. 31 "Black Monday," after going 9-23 in two seasons at the helm in Cleveland. What will it take to reverse the Browns' fortunes? The franchise turns to Panthers offensive coordinator — and former Browns OC — Rob Chudzinski. Will he be able to end the team's streak of five straight season of 11 or more losses? We'll see.

The Chiefs fired head coach Romeo Crennel on Dec. 31 after one season at the helm. Crennel's tenure was marked by off-the-field tragedy (Jovan Belcher murder-suicide) and on-the-field ineptitude, as the Chiefs limped to a 2-14 record. It didn't take long for CEO Clark Hunt to find Crennel's replacement as he hired recently ousted Eagles coach Andy Reid on Jan. 4.
 

Chan Gailey was one of several firings on the Dec. 31 "Black Monday." He lasted three seasons in Buffalo, going 16-32 during that time without a winning season. The Bills found an in-state candidate to replace Gailey, reportedly going with Syracuse coach Doug Marrone. After spending seven years as an assistant in the NFL, Marrone headed to the collegiate ranks where he rebuilt a once-moribund Orange program.
