NFL 5 43 NFL offseason storylines 10899334 Will he stay or will he go? Will+he+stay+or+will+he+go%3F NFL It's the annual Brett Favre question: Will he retire or not? Or better yet: If he does retire, will he really stay retired?

The real intrigue arises if he does call it quits this offseason. That would leave the Vikings -- a team that should have beaten the eventual Super Bowl champion Saints in the NFC title game -- without a big-time QB, unless you call Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels "big-time."

Would Vikings coach Brad Childress, the former Eagles offensive coordinator, then be tempted enough to throw a major trade package together to help Donovan McNabb escape from Philly? If not, would the Cardinals, fresh from Kurt Warner's retirement, come calling to Andy Reid for McNabb instead?

Are+the+%27Skins+and+%27Boys+about+to+become+the+Yanks%3F NFL Former NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle ushered in the word "parity" into the NFL lexicon, and the balance of power has allowed for 22 teams to play in the Super Bowl since free-agency hit the NFL in 1994.

But with the NFL owners and players staging a high-stakes staring contest over their next labor deal, the league is poised to toss its salary cap in the closet this offseason ... possibly for good, if you believe the players union.

Without a cap, will that pave the way for big-bucks big shots like the Redskins'  Daniel Snyder (left) and Cowboys' Jerry Jones to try to buy a Super Bowl title? Who knows if the Steinbrenner approach would work in the NFL anyway, but we may find out.

Do his intangibles outweigh his weaknesses?
Which position should he play?
Where would you draft him?
Can he save the universe?

In other words, you won't have to Tivo anything on Tebow.

So what does that mean for the pass-rushing star? It means he will be the most-talked about free agent of the offseason. Unless Peppers' mind has changed drastically from the previous offseason, when he barked about wanting to find a team with a 3-4 defense, the Patriots may be the most interested party.

No. 85 has even reportedly offered to take a pay cut to make it happen.

Now, HBO would probably toss in some extra dough in hopes of putting the two buddy-buddy WRs in lights as co-stars of this summer's "Hard Knocks" training camp series. But would T.O. -- at age 36 -- really help the Bengals, who desperately need a major deep threat to take heat off Ocho?

Now both offensive and defensive anchors of the best regular-season team from 2006 are expected to be ex-Chargers in what promises to be a newsworthy offseason in San Diego. It's bizarre to think that GM A.J. Smith would rather hang on to waterbug Darren Sproles instead of one of the best RBs of this era, but LT will be 31 in June at a position that values electric youth.

As for Merriman, he's been talking as his S.D. days were numbered for a couple seasons now.

But is his brain drained completely? Probably not, and if there's a power player who will be more interesting to watch during draft weekend, please let us know. Belichick's Patriots own four picks in the first two rounds, meaning they could be involved in some serious trade talks -- or decide to load up on defense on Day One of draft weekend.

The six-time Pro Bowl stud safety-man has been hinting about calling it a career since the end of the regular season because of ongoing concerns about nerve issues in his neck and shoulders. Reed turns 32 in September and said publicly during Super Bowl week that the annual injury watch is making him think very seriously about retirement. If he did call it quits, the Ravens would be in big trouble.

This offseason, it's Denver's mercurial talent Brandon Marshall. Oh sure, after a year of openly hoping to get paid or get dealt -- as well as getting benched in the season finale by coach Josh McDaniels -- we really, truly believe it when B-Marsh said recently that he's going to go along with whatever the Broncos decide to do this offseason. Uh huh. That's likely because he knows that McDaniels wants no part of him.

So which team could make a play for the restricted free agent? Think Dolphins and Ravens first.
