Miss the fun on Monday night? You didn’t miss much. In fact, you really didn’t miss any fun, unless you like miscues. New York squandered its final opportunity at a postseason berth with an ugly 14-10 loss in Tennessee. Mark Sanchez had five turnovers. Chris Johnson had a highlight-reel TD run. But hey, at least Rex Ryan avoided blowing a gasket in the postgame news conference. —Ross Jones

The Jets’ postseason hopes came to an end, but the show must go on. New York hosts woeful San Diego in six days, and that one has the chance to be as ugly as the game on Monday night. For Tennessee, the Titans have been out of it since November, so not much will change. Mike Munchak has the duty of rallying his troops as they play the surging Packers on Sunday.

Braylon Edwards, who was claimed off waivers last Tuesday after lambasting Jets’ brass — including referencing to them on Twitter as “idiots” — was named one of the five Jets’ gameday captains. Edwards battled a hamstring injury all week long and wasn’t much of a factor with three catches for 47 yards.

Yeah, it’s getting worse. Needing a spark, the Jets turned to Tim Tebow for a series in the second quarter. Tebow led the Jets on a six-play drive which resulted in a punt. The series was supposed to keep the Titans’ defense off balance. It had the opposite effect. Following a Jets’ defensive stand, Rex Ryan decided to go back to Sanchez and he responded by throwing an interception, his 14th of the season, on the first play. It wouldn’t be his last. That pretty much summed up the night for the offense.

Can it get any worse for Mark Sanchez? For a player who was dubbed as the Sanchize just two seasons ago, it’s likely that his time could be waning in New York. Sanchez was given every opportunity to win Monday night’s game, but his five turnovers would seal the Jets’ fate. Former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer shouldered the blame last season, but GM Mike Tannenbaum and head coach Rex Ryan could make the decision to unload Sanchez by way of trade. Although his lone TD pass to tight end Jeff Cumberland didn’t increase his value, he’s likely to get another shot in the league with so many other teams hurting at the position.

Jake Locker hasn’t lived up to expectations as a first-round draft pick, and the following excuses in Tennessee have been made for him: He’s had two offensive coordinators in 2012. He’s banged up. He’s playing behind a moth-eaten offensive line. The Titans can’t get the running game going. Tired of excuses? So are the Titans. It’s time for Locker to live up to his lofty expectations. Designed runs for the mobile quarterback won’t get it done on a regular basis. Locker is 3-6 in nine starts this season and had a hard-to-watch performance against the Jets. Running back Chris Johnson stole the show (and bailed out Locker) with an electrifying franchise-record 94-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
