But which team will be picking first next April? Gerrit Ritt sizes up the competition for No. 1.

They still have all sorts of holes to fill. Remember, even Peyton Manning went 3-13 his rookie year. Troy Aikman suffered through a sad 1-15 inaugural campaign. Bradford should help, but any more than 4-5 wins would be a shocker. -- Gerrit Ritt

However, these are the Raiders, after all, and they’re bound to have the heartache continue.

However, they still have just one average receiver, three less than average quarterbacks and an offensive line that can’t block anybody. You expect Chan Gailey to turn things around? Right, didn’t think so.

NFL 5 43 Teams most likely to own next year's No. 1 pick 11173327 Cleveland Browns Cleveland+Browns NFL Eric Mangini will continue to have his hands full with this offense, as they’ve scrapped the duo of Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson in favor of the Jake Delhomme/Seneca Wallace/Colt McCoy trio. The running game is solid, but the passing game will have serious trouble. The defensive line’s a mess, and their secondary’s super young. Mike Holmgren has them on the right track, but it may be yet another long season on Lake Erie. And if Shaun Rogers gets suspended next year, any of us could probably rush for 100 yards vs. the Browns.

NFL 5 43 Teams most likely to own next year's No. 1 pick 11173324 Jacksonville Jaguars Jacksonville+Jaguars NFL They failed to draft a quarterback to supplant David Garrard, chose a D-lineman at No. 10 they probably could have let drop to them at No. 40 and they’re releasing every decent player on their defense. That’s why the Jaguars will be drafting high next year yet again. Frankly, this team could end up being one of the worst in football next year, especially if Maurice Jones-Drew can’t survive 16 games.

NFL 5 43 Teams most likely to own next year's No. 1 pick 11173326 Kansas City Chiefs Kansas+City+Chiefs NFL The Chiefs are actually heading in the right direction, but they’re still a young team that needs to grow with each other a bit longer. Matt Cassel has shown he can run the team well, Jamaal Charles is a hell of a runner and Dwayne Bowe has superstar written all over him. If that line of theirs can give Cassel time to throw, and if the defense can hold teams under 20 points a game, they have a chance to make a little noise. Those are two ocean-sized ifs, though.

NFL 5 43 Teams most likely to own next year's No. 1 pick 11173331 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tampa+Bay+Buccaneers NFL I wouldn’t wanna be a team in the NFC South right now. This could be the best division in football, which makes Tampa Bay’s road all the more difficult. The Saints, Falcons and Panthers all have the talent to win 10-11 games, meaning Josh Freeman will have to face one of the league’s toughest schedules. Not something you want your sophomore signal-caller forced to face. Tampa won’t be terrible, but needs time to let its young talent flourish.

They’ve done a great job in the draft the past couple years, and have signed some decent free agents. They’re finally doing things the right way. Unfortunately, the Lions were in such a huge hole to begin with, it’s gonna take time to be a playoff contender again. However, the tools are slowly starting to materialize.

NFL 5 43 Teams most likely to own next year's No. 1 pick 11173329 Denver Broncos Denver+Broncos NFL Josh McDaniels is doing things his way as the Broncos' boss, but the AFC’s gonna be incredibly tough this year. Even 8-8 is probably an unrealistic goal for them after losing Brandon Marshall and taking a step back to develop a McDaniels-style quarterback (Tim Tebow?!). The defense simply was a disaster in 2009, which is the biggest concern. If that doesn’t improve, they’re in trouble.

Ken Whisenhunt is respected as much as any head coach in the league, but his weapons have been taken away from him too quickly. Can Matt Leinart finally prove he’s got the game to lead this team back to the playoffs? That’s gonna be tough to do, folks.
