Just ask Bears running back Michael Bush, who fumbled after a hit by Texans safety Danieal Manning during Sunday night's 13-6 Houston win in Chicago. While the Bears defense has gotten most of the publicity scoring TDs at a record pace, on Sunday it was the Texans who locked down the opponent. Along with forcing four turnovers and knocking Bears QB Jay Cutler out of the game, the Texans held the Bears to 249 net yards and just two field goals (and good thing, because the Bears defense held Houston to only 215 yards).

In a game it seemed neither team wanted to win, the 49ers may or may not have suffered a serious blow as they jockey for playoff positioning, and the Rams may or may not have taken a big step on their road back to respectability. That ambiguity is what you are left with when two divisional rivals play to a tie. Indeed, after an overtime that saw a penalty wipe out an 80-yard gain for the Rams, a penalty turn a made Rams field goal (53 yards) into a missed Rams field goal (58 yards), All-Pro David Akers miss a 41-yarder, and the two teams combine for four penalties (three very costly), St. Louis (3-5-1) tied San Francisco (6-2-1) 24-24, the NFL’s first tie in nearly four years (Nov. 16, 2008: Eagles 13, Bengals 13).

With each passing week, the questions about whether Michael Vick should be benched by Eagles coach Andy Reid grew louder and more persistent. On Sunday, the Cowboys took care of the problem and benched Vick themselves. The turnover machine was knocked out of the game with a concussion with just under 12 minutes to play and the score tied 7-7. Rookie Nick Foles, who looked so good in the preseason, had good numbers (22 of 32, 219 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), but the Cowboys outscored the Eagles 31-16 after Vick was knocked out and won the game, 38-23.

You had to figure that things would get bad for the Jets when All-Pro CB Darrelle Revis was lost for the season to injury. But this bad? On a day where the Jets offense failed to score a point, their defense surrendered four TDs, including a scoring pass from WR Golden Tate (far right) to fellow wideout Sidney Rice (No. 18). The 28-7 win put the Seahawks at 6-4 (5-0 at home) heading into their bye and sent the lowly Jets to 3-6 on the season.

The 1972 Miami Dolphins can rest easy. And for years to come, if the NFL keeps up its modern, pass-happy ways. Pass-oriented offenses have produced points and TV ratings like never before, and that's not a bad thing. But even good teams that rely almost entirely on aerials are vulnerable. They simply aren't constructed to run out the clock with a lead, or to gain a key yard when the game is on the line. Such was the case Sunday when the Atlanta Falcons suffered their first loss of the season, 31-27 at New Orleans. Michael Turner, formerly a bruising back, was stuffed on a third-and-goal from the 1-yard line late in the fourth quarter (pictured). He had only 15 yards on 13 carries against a Saints defense that had been allowing a league-worst 176.5 yards a game. What would Larry Csonka think?

The mere fact he was on the field for Week 1 after he ended the 2011 season with a devastating knee injury told us that. But he had 171 yards on a workhorse-like 27 carries Sunday as Minnesota beat Detroit 34-24. Which is nice. What's remarkable, though, is that 120 of those yards came in the fourth quarter. The man who had reconstructive surgery on his left knee 10-1/2 months ago was getting stronger as the Lions were gasping for breath. Tough luck, Lions.

Receiver Vincent Jackson's tenure in San Diego was marked by spectacular catches, as he frequently outjumped defenders for jump balls from Philip Rivers. It was also marked by multiple DUI arrests, contract disputes and sneers from stone-faced Chargers general manager A.J. Smith. Did Jackson get payback Sunday as his new team, the Buccaneers, faced his old one for the first time? Not in the stat line. He had five catches for 59 yards. But the Bucs won 34-24, and they say the best revenge is living well. Jackson is on a 5-4 team that's trending upward and has high energy under new coach Greg Schiano. The 4-5 Chargers continue to deteriorate under the Maharaja of Malaise, Norv Turner. Jackson surely was on the right sideline.

It's midseason. Time for the Giants' annual power nap. Each year, it seems they doze just long enough for us to discount their playoff chances. This year, the nap comes in the form of a 31-13 spanking at Cincinnati on Sunday and a two-game losing streak. Eli Manning was thoroughly outplayed by Andy Dalton. Of course he was. Now, the G-Men can tuck themselves in nice and cozy for their bye week. The alarm goes off Nov. 25 for a Sunday night game vs. the Packers.

Seems they celebrated Veterans Day by displaying the wrong kinds of flags. The Bills drew four pass-interference calls, including three in the end zone, en route to a 37-31 loss at New England. In all, Buffalo drew 14 penalties for 148 yards. That offset a remarkable 35 first downs for the Bills, who dropped to 0-11 at Gillette Stadium. Now, they're crying in their hankies.

With so many teams near the middle of the bell curve, we might expect more close games. Instead, we get wild week-to-week variations. Go ahead and explain how the Titans go from losing 51-20 at home vs. Chicago to handing the Dolphins their worst loss in Miami since 1968, 37-3. Yeah, turnovers are an X factor. And Tennessee had four takeaways Sunday, including a pick six by middle linebacker Colin McCarthy (pictured). Turnovers come and go, however. And the Titans go up and down, like so many other NFL teams these days. Which means what? Jacksonville just might have a chance at a win next week when the Titans pay a visit.

Peyton Manning has gotten all the pub in Denver this year, and rightly so. Now that his career resurrection has become a familiar storyline, it's time to remember just how good Broncos linebacker Von Miller is. Miller was all over the field Sunday as the Broncos rolled 36-14 at Carolina. More accurately, he was all over the Panthers' backfield. He sacked QB Cam Newton once (pictured), forced a fumble and had four tackles for a loss. Just as Manning makes defenses adjust to him, and then beats them anyway, Miller remains a disruptive forces even as opposing offenses do everything they can to account for him.

Just ask Ravens punter Sam Koch. Also the team's holder, he scored on a fake field goal (pictured) as Baltimore pulled out all the stops in a 55-20 rout of the hapless Raiders. The Ravens set a franchise record for points in a game. The Raiders, meanwhile, played like a broken record.
