Top 9 NFL rules that need tweaking NOW
Every Sunday during the season, this scene repeats itself across the league as players, coaches and fans at home are often dumbfounded over a certain call ... but sometimes it's not the fault of the officials — they are just the unfortunate messengers, followers of a dizzying bible of NFL bylaws.
The late Hank Stram had it wrong — referees aren't overofficious jerks, instead they're just pawns. For many rules, the league is way off-base ... but mostly the rulesmakers are overthinking, making life too difficult on themselves and their zebras.
Coming off the latest rule changes from this week's league meetings, Adrian Hasenmayer lists nine rules that need some serious simplification. After all, this is football, not NASA.
