News: A person familiar with the deal says quarterback Josh Freeman has agreed to terms with the New York Giants. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the team had not announced the move. Impact: Freeman was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in October after a messy split. He signed with Minnesota four days later, but played just one game for the Vikings. That happened to come against the Giants, when he went 20 for 53 for 190 yards and one interception in the ugly 23-7 Monday night loss. Freeman would compete to back up Eli Manning with the Giants.(STATS, 4:19pm)

News: Freeman and the Giants have agreed to a one-year deal, reports. Impact: Freeman is thus in line to compete for the Giants' No. 2 QB job with Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib. Given his NFL starting experience (he has 60 to his credit), Freeman should have the edge to secure that role. Starter Eli Manning recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on his ankle, which paves the way for Freeman and his competition to see added opportunities during the team's offseason workouts while Manning recovers.(RotoWire, )

News: The Giants and Freeman are reportedly closing in on a contract agreement, reports. Impact: Assuming he signs with the Giants, Freeman -- who has 60 career NFL starts to his credit -- would be in line compete to compete with Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib for the team's top backup job behind starter Eli Manning, who recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle. In such a scenario, Freeman would be the favorite to emerge as the team's No. 2 QB, but barring any setbacks, Manning is on track to be good to go well in advance of Week 1.(RotoWire, )

News: Freeman has drawn interest from the Giants, the New York Daily News reports. Impact: Freeman has had a NFL career filled with peaks and valleys, as he followed up 2012's 4065 yard campaign by losing his job to Mike Glennon in 2013, before eventually being granted his release. The 26-year-old would serve as an insurance policy to Eli Manning, who is expected to need at least six weeks to recover from ankle surgery that he had on Thursday. In addition to depth, Freeman would provide an extra camp body to go along with Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib, who are already on the Giants' roster.(RotoWire, )

News: Freeman visited with the Bears on Monday, CSN Chicago reports. Impact: Fellow QB Adam Weber also visited the Bears, who are looking to bolster their depth behind starter Jay Cutler and current reserve signal caller Jordan Palmer. If he signs with the Bears, Freeman -- who endured a forgettable 2013 campaign -- would provide the team with an experienced option behind Cutler, who last played all 16 games in a season in 2009.(RotoWire, )
