Rams vs. Chiefs: 5 things to watch PRO FOOTBALL
by - JIM THOMAS , St. Louis Post-Dispatch
On the receiving end
Tuesday's roster moves left eight wide receivers still standing; only five or six figure to make the final roster. Donnie Avery, Laurent Robinson and Keenan Burton look like sure things. What if the Rams keep only five WRs? That means either Tim Carter, Ronald Curry, or Derek Stanley could be unemployed by Saturday afternoon.
Tight squeeze at DT
Teams traditionally keep four defensive tackles. The Rams have five bona fide roster candidates in Adam Carriker, Gary Gibson, Clifton Ryan, Darell Scott and Hollis Thomas. Who's the odd man out? And should 2007 first-round pick Carriker, who's on the second-team defense coming off an ankle injury, be worried?
Jason Smith, again
A minor injury to Alex Barron put No. 2 overall draft pick Jason Smith in the starting lineup at RT against Atlanta. He was back on the second unit against Cincinnati, but a minor injury to Richie Incognito is expected to put Smith back in the starting lineup tonight. A solid outing against Kansas City could seal the deal for him as a starter.
Bubble watch
Despite missed tackles and penalties, is David Roach still in the backup safety picture with Craig Dahl and Todd Johnson? Has CB Quincy Butler shown enough to make the final roster? Will the Rams keep four OTs - if so, will it be Phil Trautwein or Renardo Foster? DEs Eric Moore and C.J. Ah You have had impressive preseasons.
