Saints tight end Miller out for season

While the Saints made no official announcement on Miller's prognosis after he had an MRI on Friday morning, he told reporters during an open locker room period that he would be having surgery.
Miller, who has been with the Saints since 2006, wore a protective boot on his right foot and needed crutches to get around the locker room.
The loss of Miller, a solid receiver who had 45 catches for 579 yards and one touchdown for the NFL's top-ranked offense last season, is a big blow to the Saints - mainly because they're already thin at the position.
Besides Shockey, the only healthy tight ends on the roster are Buck Ortega and Martrez Milner with the regular-season opener just a week away. Team officials may have to address the situation after reducing their roster to the regular-season limit of 53 players by 3 p.m. today.
Veteran Dan Campbell, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in June, had complications early in training camp and eventually was put on injured reserve. Also, Darnell Dinkins has battled ankle and foot problems since the first exhibition game, forcing him to miss his third straight game Thursday night.
It's nothing new for the Saints , whose tight ends have had trouble remaining healthy since coach Sean Payton took over in 2006.

Last season, Johnson injured his ankle during offseason workouts and was waived/injured in training camp.
Shockey missed three games after having sports hernia surgery early in the season and Mark Campbell suffered a season-ending knee injury in mid-November.
