Brought back after being cut Saturday were safety Lendy Holmes, defensive end Rob Jackson, receiver Trent Shelton, defensive end J.D. Skolnitsky and fullback Eddie Williams. The Redskins also added quarterback Andre Woodson, who was cut by the New York Giants.

Three players expected to be on Washington's practice squad found new homes.

Defensive tackle Antonio Dixon was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles and placed on their 53-man roster. Quarterback Chase Daniel signed with New Orleans to join the Saints' practice squad, saying on his Twitter page things didn't work out with Washington. And linebacker Cody Glenn signed with Indianapolis to join the Colts' practice squad,according to NFL.com.

It remains unclear whether Daniel and Glenn turned down offers from the Redskins or the team decided to go in another direction. Danielsaid on his Twitter account Saturday that he was going to sign with the Redskins once he cleared waivers. It's possible he reconsidered the Redskins' offer once New Orleans expressed interest or the Redskins chose to pursue Woodson instead of Daniel.

A sixth-round pick by the Giants last year, Woodson spent 2008 on New York's practice squad. The former Kentucky quarterback struggled this preseason, completing only 39 percent of his passes and throwingtwo interceptions. The Giants opted to keep two quarterbacks.

Woodson (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) brings more size than the 6-0 Daniel.

Coach Tom Coughlin told New York reporters Woodson was a difficultcut because of how far he has come as a player and as a young man interms of the way he's grown up and the way he has matured in his development and the quality of player that he is.

The Redskins and Giants play Sunday at the Meadowlands.

Jackson was a seventh-round pick last year who appeared in three games but fell down the depth chart with the arrival of supplemental draft pick Jeremy Jarmon and the return of veterans Renaldo Wynn and Phillip Daniels, who was injured all last season with a knee injury.

Williams was a seventh-round selection this year who didn't participate in the offseason program because of a knee injury and missed several days early in training camp because of a hamstring injury. Skolnitsky, an undrafted free agent from James Madison, also missed time last month because of a hamstring problem.

Holmes was the only safety cut and will provide depth if any of the four safeties get injured. The Redskins will be Shelton's third different practice squad. He spent 2007 with Indianapolis and 2008 with Seattle.

With the remaining spots, the Redskins are likely to sign one defensive and one offensive player.
