Maurice Jones-Drew was named the AFC offensive player of the week for the first time in his career after a three-touchdown, 119-yard performance Sunday in the Jaguars' 31-24 victory over the Houston Texans.

It marked the ninth time in Jones-Drew's NFL career that he scored multiple touchdowns in a game. It was his eighth career 100-yard rushing game, second-most in team history behind Fred Taylor.

But Jones-Drew wasn't interested in discussing accolades as the team prepared for Sunday's AFC South matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

"We've gained a little confidence, but at the same time, we made some crucial mistakes [against the Texans] we have to correct," Jones-Drew said. "We've got to do whatever we can to fix those and get back to executing and being 100 percent on everything."

Jones-Drew ranks sixth in the NFL in rushing yards (282) and is tied for second in TDs (four). The Jaguars are 7-2 in games in which Jones-Drew scores more than one touchdown.

Jones-Drew is averaging 94 yards rushing per game and faces a Titans defense that ranks seventh in the NFL against the run.

"He's probably our biggest concern defensively going into this," Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said of Jones-Drew.

GARRARD CANCELS RADIO SHOW

Fans wanting to listen to the Friday radio show of quarterback David Garrard can forget about it for the rest of the season. It's not happening anymore, according to Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio.

"He's made a decision to take that time and protect that time," Del Rio said. "I'm very supportive of his decision to do that."

Citing the importance of resting and studying film 48 hours before games, Del Rio strongly suggested last week to Garrard that he stop participating in the show, which had aired the first two Fridays of the season on WJXL (1010 AM). Garrard complied, which led to harsh criticism of Del Rio from several broadcasters on the sports-talk station.

"I've let my feelings be known to David about what's most important late in the week," Del Rio said. "It's important to make sure your attention is on the game, your focus is on the game. Less than 48 hours away from the game, it's not even a question. I don't even understand how anybody could ever advise somebody to think about doing something like that. It makes no sense."

NEARLY A TITAN

Torry Holt came close to signing a free-agent contract with Tennessee during the offseason before joining the Jaguars .

The receiver visited the Titans in April. Holt and Tennessee appeared to show mutual interest, but the sides didn't get a deal done.

"Well, I'm not going to talk about that," Holt said. "I had an opportunity to visit with [Fisher] in the offseason, when I was deciding where I was going to go. So I definitely like his philosophy, where he was going with the Football team and his approach."

ETC.

CB Brian Witherspoon (knee) returned to practice Wednesday after missing last week's game at Houston. ... LB Adam Sewell (groin), RT Eben Britton (right knee), S Sean Considine (groin), DL Terrance Knighton (ankle) and DT Greg Peterson (knee) didn't practice Wednesday. Neither did FB Montell Owens or DT/DE Derek Landri because of illness. Del Rio said Considine appears to be the only player likely to miss Sunday's game. Peterson signed with the Jaguars on Tuesday. He was waived by Tampa Bay on Aug. 13.
