Jets LB looks back on meeting Bush

METAIRIE - The last time New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush and New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott met on the Football field, Scott had a little something extra for Bush.

Scott was playing for the Baltimore Ravens in 2006 when he wrapped up Bush by the ankles and tossed them aside. That ended the afternoon for Bush, who was already nursing an ankle injury.

Scott later said he put "a little hot sauce" on Bush's ankle as the Ravens peppered the Saints , 35-22. Scott said he didn't try to intentionally injure Bush, who tried to downplay the incident Wednesday.

"That was a few years ago," said Bush, who'll go against Scott and the Jets on Sunday in the Superdome. "This is a totally different year, and obviously we don't live on the past."

Scott playfully talked about the incident on a conference call with Louisiana reporters. His radio show in Baltimore was called "Hot Sauce" and he also thought about marketing a hot sauce.

"I gave him some a couple years ago. Do we need more hot sauce?" Scott said.

"I had a good run with the hot sauce. It turned into something that really wasn't meant to be, as far as like, 'Oh, did I try and hurt him?' I was just trying to give you guys a little juice, and ya'll ran with it."

Tough decision

Saints coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that two-time Pro Bowl tackle Jammal Brown was put on injured reserve after team officials decided they needed to free up a roster spot.

When Brown had surgery on his left hip on Sept. 11, just three weeks after he had sports hernia surgery, it was thought he would be out seven or eight weeks. But Payton said the prognosis from the doctor who worked on the hip then put Brown's return at 12 weeks.

"That puts you right at that gray area where you begin to weigh the pros and cons of the time away, and when he'd be able to come back healthy," Payton said. "Ultimately, we made the decision that we felt like we had to put him on IR to free up a roster spot."

The Saints re-signed center Nick Leckey to fill Brown's roster spot.

Snap judgment

Long snapper Jason Kyle injured his right knee and ankle against Buffalo Bills and did not practice Wednesday.

Payton said the Saints will have a contingency plan for Sunday's game with the Jets, but he hoped Kyle will be ready to play.

Payton said reserve linebacker Troy Evans and reserve safety Chris Reis, who did some snapping in NFL Europe, worked at that spot Wednesday.

Injury report

Also missing practice Wednesday were defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy (knee), tackle Jermon Bushrod (knee/ankle), defensive end Bobby McCray (back), running back Mike Bell (knee), cornerback Malcolm Jenkins (ankle) and tight end Darnell Dinkins (foot).

Wide receiver Lance Moore (hamstring) and wide receiver Rod Harper (foot) were limited.

Think pink

Quarterback Drew Brees and other players around the league will add a touch of pink to their equipment starting Sunday as part of the NFL's support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Brees, who is among 100 players expected to wear pink and white cleats, said there will be pink towels and gloves and the color will also be added to the captain's patches on the jerseys.

Brees, who showed off his new shoes during Wednesday's practice, didn't hesitate when asked by the league to participate.

"One of the missions for our foundation (the Brees Dream Foundation) is to help find a cure for cancer - and especially help kids that are fighting the battle," he said. "So it's something that's close to my heart."

Thomas nominated

Saints running back Pierre Thomas, who rushed for a career-high 126 yards and two touchdowns against the Bills, is one of the nominees for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week award.

Fans can vote at www.NFL.com/FedEx until 11 a.m. Friday with the winner to be announced that evening.

Four straight?

A win over the Jets on Sunday would give the Saints a 4-0 start for only the third time in the 43-year history of the organization. They started 7-0 in 1991 and were 5-0 in '93.

Arrive early

Saints officials are encouraging fans to arrive at the Superdome earlier than usual Sunday because of increased security measures being implemented at all NFL stadiums. The game will kick off at 3:05 p.m.
