Steelers' Parker can't crack starting lineup

Steelers running back Willie Parker returned to the field but not the starting lineup Sunday.

Rashard Mendenhall made his third consecutive start at running back and rushed for a game-high 62 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in the Steelers' 27-14 win over the Browns.

Parker, playing for the first time since late September, added 26 yards on seven carries. Both Mendenhall and Parker lost a fumble in the game. But those turnovers, coach Mike Tomlin said, weren't the reason why Mewelde Moore was in the game on the Steelers' final possession.

"He's earned the right to play," Tomlin said of Moore. "We feel very comfortable with what he's capable of doing."

? Tomlin said he didn't have a problem with officials reversing a call that had given Hines Ward a touchdown catch in the second quarter (they ruled that the Steelers' wide receiver didn't hold onto the ball long enough). Tomlin was miffed that the Steelers had to start their final drive on their own 1-yard line instead of the 20-yard line following a Ryan Clark interception. Officials ruled that Clark's momentum carried him into the end zone, which is why the Steelers weren't awarded a touchback on the play.

"I have no idea what (referee) Walt (Anderson) was talking about," Tomlin said. "If anybody understands that one, explain it to me."

? Outside linebacker Andre Frazier (quad) didn't play yesterday because of an injury. Joining him on the Steelers' inactive list were wide receiver Limas Sweed, fullback Carey Davis, cornerback Keenan Lewis, guard Kraig Urbik, defensive end Sunny Harris, offensive tackle Tony Hills and quarterback Dennis Dixon.

QUOTABLE

"He's in total command of the offense. It's fun to watch at times." ? Coach Mike Tomlin on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who threw for 417 yards and two touchdowns against the Browns.

DIGITS

18.1 ??Yards the Steelers averaged on 23 catches against the Browns.

23 ? Career 100-yard receiving games Hines Ward has after catching eight passes for 159 yards and a touchdown against the Browns.
