Redskins add to line, shuffle their backfield

Short on experienced offensive line depth after Chris Samuels' injury, the Washington Redskins on Tuesday signed veteran left tackle Levi Jones in one of six roster moves.

The Redskins didn't make a trade before the 4 p.m. deadline but also re-signed defensive end Renaldo Wynn, signed running back Quinton Ganther and released punter Glenn Pakulak and running backs Anthony Alridge and Marcus Mason.

Jones, 30, is a former first-round pick who played his entire career in Cincinnati (89 starts). The Bengals released him in May after back and leg injuries limited him to 10 games in 2008 and the team drafted Andre Smith.

Samuels will miss his second straight game with a neck stinger. He visited doctors Tuesday to determine whether the injury has progressed and whether he can continue playing with a narrowing of the spinal column. Samuels is expected to address his status Wednesday.

It's unclear whether Jones will be available to back up Stephon Heyer against Philadelphia on Monday. D'Anthony Batiste was the reserve left tackle last week.

Ganther, 25, played 13 games for Tennessee last year, gaining 61 yards on nine carries. He was released in August.

Mason made the team out of training camp but played only 13 offensive snaps, carrying six times for 19 yards. Alridge was cut in the preseason, returned in Week 2 and didn't see any playing time.

Hunter Smith's groin injury forced Pakulak into punting duties the past two weeks. If Smith can't go this week, it's expected Pakulak will re-sign.
