Turner says improved focus is the key

With a couple days to cool off and reassess the situation, Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner decided maybe he doesn?t need to scale back the game plan as he threatened after Sunday?s game.

"If we did, it would just be a little," Turner said. "You say some things sometimes when you?re mad. It?s really just a matter of focusing. We made some mistakes on things that we shouldn?t. It?s not a matter of cutting back. It?s a matter of focusing better and maybe preparing them better."

Turner was just as irate Monday after watching film of Sunday?s game because he couldn?t justify the mental mistakes and the lack of execution.

"Every mental mistake that we made should not have been made," he said. "It wasn?t on something that was new (and) it wasn?t on something that was tricky. It was base stuff. Most of it was stuff we put in the first few days of training camp that we?ve run every week, and we?ve run over and over and over. So it?s just a matter of focus and zeroing in, and that?ll be there."

Turner?s mood had improved by the end of Wednesday?s practice.

"Right now I feel better," he said. "We had a good practice. Any time we get on the practice field, then I feel better. Until then, it?s tough."

On the move: In the interest of keeping all of quarterback Jay Cutler?s body parts in working order, offensive coordinator Ron Turner said the Bears may consider using more moving pockets in the future to avoid the pass rush.

"It just keeps the defense off balance a little bit," Turner said. "They don?t know where he?s going to be every time. Jay?s very good when he gets outside the pocket. Some of that he does on his own. We call a drop-back, and he scrambles and makes things happen. It?s something we can mix in a little bit. We?re not going to go crazy with it. But it might be something we look at a little. We?ve done it some, and we?ll probably continue to do it a little bit."

Expensive hit: Browns linebacker Kamerion Wimbley was fined $7,500 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on quarterback Jay Cutler, which also drew a 15-yard penalty.

"It doesn?t help me out any," Cutler said. "He might lose a little bit of money, but that?s how it goes."

That was just one of several hits Cutler took last Sunday, but he wasn?t complaining on Wednesday.

"I?m a little sore," he said. "It?s nothing I can?t work through. I?ll be ready on Sunday."

Injury report: Although defensive tackle Tommie Harris practiced on Wednesday, he was limited by, according to the team, a knee injury. Last week Harris claimed he didn?t have a knee problem and that was something the media made up.

Other Bears limited at Wednesday?s practice were linebacker Lance Briggs (shoulder), defensive end Adewale Ogunleye (ankle), tight end Greg Olsen (ankle), safety Craig Steltz (biceps) and defensive tackle Matt Toeaina (calf). All are expected to play Sunday, with the possible exception of Toeaina.

Wide receiver Devin Hester did not practice because of an ankle injury suffered last Sunday against the Browns, but it is believed to be a mild sprain.
