Clark unlikely to play Monday night

? Ryan Clark practiced Thursday, but the Steelers' free safety is unlikely to suit up Monday night against the Broncos due to the life-threatening complications he suffered the last time he played in Denver. If Clark doesn't play in the nationally televised game, Tyrone Carter will start in his place. Clark's blood sickled two seasons ago due to his rare form of sickle-cell trait and the high altitude in Denver. He later had to have his spleen and gall bladder removed in separate operations. The eighth-year veteran has been medically cleared to play. The Steelers , however, will likely deactivate Clark for the game even if he wants to play in it. "I told him I want him out there because of how good he is, but on a friendship level, he's got to do what's best for him, his family," Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said, "and I know he'll make the right decision."

? Defensive end Travis Kirschke (calf strain) and inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons (ankle sprain) didn't practice again yesterday. Kirschke is a longshot to play against the Broncos. Timmons said in a recent post on his blog that he is "day to day."

? Running back Willie Parker has recovered from the illness that caused him to miss practice last Monday. As for the turf toe that has plagued Parker, offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said the time off because of the Steelers' bye helped the two-time Pro Bowler. But, he added, Parker still isn't 100 percent. "He probably won't be the rest of the year," Arians said.

? Right tackle Willie Colon had a Yankees jersey hanging in front of his locker yesterday, and for good reason. The Yankees won their 27th World Series Wednesday night. Colon, who grew up near Yankees Stadium in the Bronx, has been a lifelong fan. "The crown is back where it needs to be," he said. "As long as the Red Sox didn't win, that's all I care about."
