--Tight end Kellen Winslow did not participate in the first two days of OTAs. He is rehabbing his knee in San Diego. Coach Romeo Crennel said he is unsure whether Winslow's absence is health related. Winslow has said he wants a new contract, even though he has three years left on the current one.

"When he gets here we'll find out for sure what that (reason) is," Crennel said. "He isn't here and I haven't spoken with him since February. When he gets here, I'll be able to answer that question."

--Wide receiver Joe Jurevicius (knee), tight end Steve Heiden (back) and offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley (patellar tendon) are also absent.

--Linebacker Willie McGinest plans to retire after the 2008 season. It will be his 15th year in the NFL -- 12 with the Patriots and three with the Browns.

"I played with some of the best players, played against some of the best players, played under some great coaches and accomplished a lot," he said. "I just felt it was time, this would be it. You hear different guys talk like LaDainian (Tomlinson) about sometimes you've just got to walk away from the game.

"I want to leave the game in good shape. I want to feel good. I want my body to feel good. I want to leave productive. I don't want to be one of those guys who's still trying to hang on year to year and just be out there."

--Derek Anderson has been clicking with Donte Stallworth, the wide receiver acquired in free agency after one season with the Patriots. This is Stallworth's seventh year in the league.

"I've been throwing to him for four or five weeks," Anderson said. "The guy can run and stretch the field for us. He has a good set of hands."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We were putting in a new offense last year. It takes some time. Like in 2005, I was telling everybody it took time. Everyone doesn't want to believe that, but it does. Having been in the offensive system for a year now, it looked better today. We'll keep trying to make it look good." -- Coach Romeo Crennel on the offense looking better in its second year.
