Packers still think Favre is staying retired

"What I remember about him is he was ready to retire, and that's how I feel today. I think down deep, that's exactly how he feels," team chairman Bob Harlan said, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
The Packers team bus made a tour stop Wednesday in Fond du Lac, Wisc., where Harlan, president and CEO Mark Murphy and players answered questions about the status of the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
"I keep going back to his retirement announcement and how sincere and heartfelt that was," Murphy said, according to the Press-Gazette. "I think it's pretty reasonable that, as an organization, we're going to move on."
Favre announced his retirement on March 4, but he continually emphasized that he felt he could still play in the NFL.
It didn't take long for rumors of that possibility to start.

Worth a thousand words:
Favre fueled the flames himself by suggesting that he would be open to a comeback if the Packers should reach out to him.
"It would be hard to pass up, I guess," he told the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald in April. "But three months from now, say that presents itself, I may say, you know what, I'm so glad I made that decision."
Last week, the Press-Gazette reported Favre had inquired about returning to Green Bay and ESPN cited sources saying he had an "itch" to return to the game. On Tuesday, ESPN reported Favre sent a text message to general manager Ted Thompson. The subject or purpose of that message is still unknown.
Packers wide receiver James Jones made his position clear.
"I don't think he's coming back. Aaron Rodgers is the guy, OK? It was great playing with Brett Favre. ... He got out at a great time, he had a great career, and it's Aaron Rodgers' time now."
Even if Favre formally expressed a desire to return, the Packers would have to reinstate him from the reserve/retired list. With the team moving ahead with Rodgers at quarterback, that move is not a guarantee.
The Packers intend to retire Favre's jersey should he remain retired at the season opener against Minnesota.
