Sources: Raiders to fire Kiffin as early as Monday
Kiffin has been informed by Raiders officials that Al Davis intends to remove him as the team's head coach as early as Monday, FOXSports.com has learned.
Davis blamed Kiffin for the Raiders' 24-23 loss on Sunday to the Bills, and told his underlings that he will make the move on Monday. However, word was leaked out last week in a similar fashion and Kiffin survived. Players reached out to FOXSports.com to express hope that the move would not be made, and with Davis you can never be certain.
Kiffin appeared at his regularly scheduled news conference Monday afternoon and gave no indication that he had been dismissed.
"Until I'm told by Al Davis that I'm not the head coach here anymore, I'm going to keep plugging away," Kiffin said. "And I have not been told by Al Davis that I'm not the head coach."
Asked whether a Raider official other than Davis had told him he would be fired, Kiffin said: "I'm not going to get in to what's been said by other people, or what I've been told by other people. I'm not going to get into everything that's said. If we believe everything that's said around here, we'd be in a lot of trouble."
Kiffin reportedly has been on bad terms with Davis since shortly after last season. Sources said that when Kiffin informed Davis of coaching changes he wanted to make, the owner actually sent word to those coaches that the head coach was looking to make a move, but that Davis would protect them.
The Raiders opened the 2008 season with a 41-14 loss to the Broncos and former Raiders coach Mike Shanahan, but rebounded from that by beating the Chiefs, 23-8. They took a 16-7 lead into the fourth quarter Sunday against the Bills, but lost on Rian Lindell's 38-yard field goal as time expired.

it won't make much of a difference. until we get a new owner, one that actually desires to win, things will just stay the same. Mark Cuban are you interested the NFL???

Hey Pittsburgh homers --- What happens when your "great" QB HAS to throw more than 15 times a game? Oh, yeah ... he gets sacked a lot, completes a miserable percentage of passes, and yes, you lose! Yeah, he's a "great" QB alright. Open your eyes and see him for the AVERAGE QB that he is.

you have been in the cold too long your head froze ... anybody that knows football will tell you man for man the raiders are stronger on both sides of the ball ... just because a first year coach got a little more out of his players doesn't mean that they are better talents .... coaching still counts a little ... mcfadden has proven given the right touches and a little room he can get some yards ... Jamarcus has done what he has been told to do he isn't truning the ball over and he has made some good throws ... if you could get over your anger and denvy ... you could see that miami too is a bust team and yet they showed some signs of life and direction ... Kiffen has had 16 more games to get ready not to be tied with miami considered the worst team going in and yet here we are .... how many games does kiffen need to keep up with young head coaches without any nfl experience .... and with what other besides yourself see as inferior talent ...

Oh, by the way, the Holy Roller wasn't even a blow call...they changed the rules AFTER that play...that was just a smart play by Stabler, Banaszak and Casper....

matrixi nobody cared about the donkeys for ever until elway won a couple of superbowls and nobody cares about them now ... raiders still own more rings and have more appearances than the 2 you rode elway to get ... and i don't know what this chuckie fetish you have is ... chuckie is a loser ... he didn't win a title with the raiders and he got his ring with someone elses squad ... he is still trying to prove that wrong and he can't ... i hear tampa fan grumbling all the time about all the house cleaning chuckie did to make the team his own ... they are grumbling are tired of waiting for your idol to come through ... he is sitting in one of the worst divisions in football right now and they might win nine before a one and out in the playoffs ... bronco fan is cooool with waiting another 20 years for an elway to come along ... and mikey will have a job since nobody cares if they ever win ..........

Oh and don't start me on your defense either - hhmm, think Atlanta's crying about losing DeAngelo Hall and that contract, yeah ok...and Asawhatshisname, he looked good against the Donkeys rookie as well as Hall...and your D-Line, Kelly's your stud huh...whatever dude, the only guy I like on your defense is your LB Howard - he plays defense from the LB position at LB game speed plus...he's a gamer, you can keep everybody else IMO...

sigma ... another day and would agree with you ... I think Kiffen has some talent... I watched all 3 games and if you give him a mulligan for the broncos ... the team still had to work to beat the ugliness that is the chiefs ..but the way they lost against buffalo ... it wasn't just about the defense even though that was ugly !!!! They should have put way more points on the board ... would it have been too much to have one time consuming clock eating drive somewhere in the 4th quarter and not putting the teams fate in the hands of ryan? ryan already proved he can't make the adjustments to a good scheme ... kiffen has much better talent than atlanta ... and here we are already watching a first year coach move his less talented squad to one win more than the raiders ... if this move is coming better to make it now and have a fighting chance to see improvement this season than wait until they go 1 and 5 and make the move then ... as i said the kid has some talent, but he has no more time ... the raiders aren't a school for young coaches ... most clubs wouldn't even have considered giving a young coach like kiffen a chance...
