First it was Saints coach Sean Payton. Then it was Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Now a player has been fined for making negative comments about the NFL's officiating.

The league office has slapped Steelers' All-Pro linebacker James Harrison with a $20,000 fine for comments he made following last Monday night's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, FOXSports.com has learned.

Harrison, a 2007 Pro Bowler, was flagged for a questionable roughing-the-passer penalty when he hit Jaguars quarterback David Garrard after the QB threw the ball.

"Ridiculous call," Harrison said of the penalty. "You don't make a call like that. Unless (the official) might have money on it."

Harrison's $20,000 fine falls in between those of Payton, who was docked $15,000, and Jones, who was fined $25,000.

Example- Raiders vs New England in the playoffs in the snow. Ref didn't like Raiders.
Today Tony Romo****) in end zone ref had money on Cowboys.

It's a Tuck when the ref has money on the game or he has been paid to let a particular team win or he just doesn't like a team.

I don't see this subsiding anytime soon. The officiating has just been absolutely ass-crack this year.

The NFL would rather fine people criticizing the refs shortcomings than hire full-time refs who can dedicate themselves to the practice.

THERE IS "NO DOUBT" THE NFL HAS SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS TO DEAL WITH AS FAR AS THEIR OFFICIATING CREWS GO! THERE ARE TOO MANY QUESTIONABLE CALLS?? BAD CALLS?? THEY BETTER DO SOMTHING QUICK BEFORE ANOUTSIDE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY DOES IT FOR THEM? GET WITH IT NFL!

Yep...is there really any doubt that the NFL attempts to control the outcome of games? Kg, Casper, bb...spot on...and kg, i like that you pay attention. The guys disputing these claims must not be watching the same games we are....

IF the game had been better officiated, there wouldn't be all this chatter. Another Hockuli Hiccup game. This game had some of the worst officiating I've ever seen. Glasses boys, glasses.

Truth: bad call
Truth: player who lacks the insight to know when to limit his criticism of the ref ($$$)

Although many Refs do a good job, sometimes they somehow miss Clearly Visible calls, like Reggie Bush being pulled down by his Face mask on Monday Night!
Then on Sunday, Marshawn Lynch of the Bills had his Helmet Pulled off and the same player who did that also came down on his face with a knee, somehow I thought tackling someone by the helmet was also the same as a face mask as it was on the sides of the helmet where the mask is attached where it was gripped.
The Missed call at the end of the game a few weeks back that ended up giving the ball back to Denver and thus the win when the game would have been over.
Maybe it is time for the NFL to either tweak it's rules or look into why so many calls are missed. And there are many more.

My mistake Jud - I thought they cut him, but do see him listed on the roster. But if he hasn?t talked trash, that just means he?s not playing. He can?t keep his mouth shut.

Thank God Ryan Clark is back and healthy again which is keeping Carter on the bench.

To pghFred: the steelers still have tyrone carter - they have all season. he hasn't trash talked at all this season - so far

Mud, thhere is a differennce bbetween criticizing and suggesting someone did something against the law. He suggested the ref was cheating and profiting by it. That is not criticism it is slander

Bad call. I agree.

Should have left the money statement alone.

I wouldn't want a ref's job, and I believe they do pretty well overall considering how fast and furious these games can be. We have the luxury of slow motion and multiple camera angles.

However, the players get criticized all of the time. Coaches get criticized all of the time. Owners, GM's, all get criticized for the jobs they are doing or not doing. Why should the refs be exempt from criticism? If I don't want to be criticized at my job, I try to correct my mistakes. Otherwise I accept that I can't make everyone happy and move on.
