Sunday Scoops: Is Favre guilty of insider trading?
Several sources have told FOX Sports that Favre earlier this year phoned the Detroit Lions prior to their battle versus Favre's old team, the Green Bay Packers, and gave them a rundown of the nuances of what Green Bay does on offense. According to the sources, Favre actually spent over an hour on the phone with Lions coaches, who were connected with Favre by then-team president Matt Millen.
While the Lions still lost and the Packers and Favre's replacement Aaron Rodgers played well, it's still baffling that the Packers legend would spend such a significant chunk of time giving tips to an opponent of his long-time franchise.
Other teams the Packers have played had also heard about the Favre coaching clinic with Detroit. In addition, there have been rumors that Favre has spoken to other teams giving them information, but most of those teams insist they have not heard from the famed gunslinger.
However, another team says it has had casual talks in the past with Favre and talked about some of what Green Bay does, but it was nowhere near the details he let loose to the Lions.
Still, Favre has the right to do whatever he pleases. If he wants to help other teams there is nothing in league rules that prevents him from doing so.
L.J.'s K.C. T.O.
Larry Johnson was put in the NFL's version of a timeout this week when he was declared inactive for violating team rules. This punishment, however, has been a long-time brewing.
According to several sources, Johnson has been late for several things, including the plane on their trip to the Panthers before their Week 5 game. The team had to hold the team plane for the tardy Johnson. Some wanted to leave him, but the decision was made to wait.

Several weeks prior, Johnson was told to come out of a game for a personnel package that included rookie Jamaal Charles. Johnson refused. He was told again, but again he refused to leave the game and insisted that if the team put Charles on the field they would get a penalty for 12 men on the field.
After that incident he was given a talking to by Chiefs brass, but obviously he has not heeded the warnings.
The team shopped Johnson prior to last week's trading deadline but found no takers. He's in need of a strong reputation overhaul but, most of all, needs to start by winning over the men he plays alongside in that Chiefs locker room.
Head coach Herm Edwards always preaches respecting the NFL shield. Johnson's off-field incident a week ago certainly didn't help his cause.
Broncos' brotherly love
The Denver Broncos went a little Steve Smith this week. An interesting pitfall behind closed doors has led to the suspension of one of their defensive lineman, Josh Shaw. According to Denver sources, Shaw was getting worn out in practice this week by coaches for messing up, and was screamed at repeatedly. Finally he barked, "I'm trying" or something along those lines in a fairly high-pitched tone. Uh oh, bad move in front of a locker room of football players.
His teammates then took his phrase and, mocking his pitch, repeated it over and over and over and ... you get the point. Later in the meeting room Shaw finally had enough and informed his teammates if anyone belted out the phrase once more he'd had it. Fellow defensive lineman Kenny Peterson took the bait, mocked "I'm trying" once again. Shaw, just as promised, popped his teammate, sources said.
Head coach Mike Shanahan heard about the player-on-player action, walked into the room and suspended Shaw. Sources say he originally wanted to hit him with a four-game suspension, but the NFL Players Association will have something to say about such a harsh punishment.
Raiders' Davis does it right
With all of the bashing of Al Davis he should be given a great deal of credit this week for putting together a tremendous tribute to Raiders great Gene Upshaw, who suddenly and shockingly died earlier this year with pancreatic cancer.
Davis had over 120 former Raiders flown into Oakland Saturday night for a tribute to the late NFLPA Executive Director. According to those present, Davis actually handled much of the master of ceremonies duties and was phenomenal. He invited just about everyone who has ever played with Upshaw, and at each table was a microphone where players were asked to stand and give a great Upshaw memory.
John Madden, the legendary coach and broadcaster, talked about coming into the league together with Upshaw and those present said his speech was "unbelievable." Upshaw was drafted in 1967 and Madden joined the Raiders staff the same year.
While the Raiders have come under strong fire for the soap operas that have their coaching situation, kudos for Davis for opening his wallet, pocketbook and checkbook to do Saturday night's tribute with class.

This story is so unprofessional, one-sided and biased it's not even funny! It's well-known that Glazer is friends with McCarthy and Thompson, and Glazer made NO attempt to contact Favre for comment on this story either before publishing it or afterwards, when it became a HUGE story!! Why??? Because he knew the story would fall apart on him if he did! The next time you want to accuse a future Hall of Famer of wrongdoing, Glazer, make sure you get your facts straight, and at least make an attempt to be balanced and fair and get HIS side of the story BEFORE you publish it! Then when he publishes the story and it becomes larger than life and Favre eventually responded to it, all Glazer has to say is: "I stand by my story 1000 percent. I guess Brett and I will just have to agree to disagree on certain things. . . . I investigated this fully and for some time." What stonewalling! Wow, Glazer, with that kind of ability to stonewall, you may have missed your calling. You might as well run for office. Are you a journalist or a politician? Why didn't you even ATTEMPT to reach Favre for comment even AFTER the story became larger than life??? Because he would've broken your story down in about two seconds, just as he did in his Oct. 22nd press conference, and he would've corrected some of the "facts" in your story. Did it ever occur to you that as the now- former president of the Detroit Lions, Matt Millen, who has taken a lot of abuse from the media for seven-plus years, might be mad, biased and have an ax to grind?
Where did you go to journalism school, Glazer? The Bush League School of Journalism??

What a joke! It is well-known that Glazer is friends with McCarthy and Thompson, and this story is so one-sided, unprofessional and biased it's n ot even funny! First of all, he obviously made NO attempt to contact Favre to confirm or deny this story or get a statement from him about it either prior to releasing the story or afterwards when it became a HUGE story! He said afterwards that "I stand by my story 1000 percent. . . . I investigated this story fully and for some time." Well, obviously NOT, since he didn't even bother to try to get a quote from Favre about it!
You publish a story WITHOUT even TRYING to contact the principle subject of the story??? What journalism school did you attend, Glazer?? The Bush League School of Journalism???
Next time, try to be a professional and get BOTH sides of the story, or don't try to smear the reputation of one of the NFL's all-time greats without even trying to get a comment from him about it! And given Favre's larger-than-life stature and ego, I'm SURE that he would've given you a comment about it had you sought him out!! But that's the whole thing: You didn't, even AFTER you broke the story and it became huge! Now you just want to sit there and try to hide behind some journalistic "protectiof sources" veil when the fact of the matter is that the only one whose reputation you're trying to protect now is yourself!

I knew this was a Glazer article when i read the headlines...did Favre sleep with Glazer's girlfriend or something? The sucky thing about "journalism" is that when there isn't a story, or you aren't a good enough "journalist" to find a real one, you can just invent one and quote fictional (oops, i mean "team") sources to try to validate your story. Glazer obviously lacks any real integrity or professionalism, and anybody who's read his articles in the past knows he's a bush leaguer trying to play with the professionals...You wouldn't find somebody like Chris Mortenson or Hank Goldberg breaking stories that absolutely couldn't be validated, and that will always just be "hearsay" and conjecture...Fox seems to gather the dregs to it's writing team...You know: Glazer, Ian O'Connell(or whatever his name is), Rosenthal.... should i continue.......
The thing that gets me is that Favre has friendships throughout the league, and nobody ever talks about him in less than respectful tones except Glazer and Packer's management, which really isn't a surprise given Glazers relationship with Thompson and McCarthy....what a p.o.s.
Does Fox have any integrity? A few eeks ago, they published a story claiming Ken Griffey had hit 6 home runs in the 08 season...the hyperlink for Griffey led to his actual player page here on Fox where they had his real stats (18 homers btw) listed for all to see...this is obviously the way Fox does things, and they clearly believe we the readers are too stupid to do any research ourselves and will take their word on blind faith alone...pathetic

Farve is a slug. I'll take Belacheck any day to back me up before I would take the backstabbing Favre.

FOXSPORT is just going for character assassination here. It was written only to incite the Packers players and fans against Favre. This seems to be a coordinated attack from all reporters at FOXSPORT.

Glazer is also close to Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy. When this story broke, the Packers were 3-3 while the Jets were 3-2. Could this have been an attempt by "unnamed sources" to make make sure the Packers management wouldn't come under more scrutiny for their deposing of Favre?

Favre admitted Millen PHONED HIM. How Glazer made that into over an hour on the phone with coaches looks like pure speculation.

Glazer, I think your Farve scoop is simply a sad attempt to draw attention to your inadequet little existence. Can't you find a story with something that is not fictional and not biased. I know you have to sell an idea and I doubt this bad idea came from you but have a little integrity and work a little bit.

Dumb ass fans and sports writers that worrie about stupid **** like this. You guys are worrried about milion dollar jocks running up and down the field like GI joe. It's not like they are putting money in your bank account.

The looser fans in Greenbay that worrrie about Favre and who he called need to really get a life. Oh boy favre called Romo, Romo called Favre, Farve talked to the Lions, the lions talked to Favre, Favre took a ****, he didn't call Rogers. who gives a **** who he calls or does not call. If anyone needs to move on it's the greenbay fans, where women are women and the men are to.

Gazer is typical of modern day writing. he heres it from an unnamed source. What a cop. Anyone can say anything these days and just say "I was told from an unnkown source" What an easy way to make a buck. but what can you expect from a fat, ugly pile of trash that can never get laid. People like Glazer are algae, the worst residue on the bottom of a toilet. Nothing but an overzelous $42,000 a year sports writer. Get a real job.

Ya know, who cares? Honestly? Favre says he didn't do it and a reporter says he did. Who cares. let him play. If you read all the articles, "insider trading" happens all the time within the organization. Brett is an all time great and hall of famer who is having a pretty good year and he is not tarnishing his legacy at all. He just wants to play some ball.

Most reporters and news writers want to bring up and emphasize negative things because it causes more of a stir than the positive things. They will always bash on favre for this, for coming out of retirement, for wearing a tie with a spot on it, it doesn't matter. They want to make their money at anyones expense and who better than a hall of famer?
MiketheACking10/23/2008 10:13:00 AM(Report inappropriate content)
another typical scenario where fans are BLINDED by one player, making him godlike and unable to err.....Favre is a bitter sore loser. Should have stayed retired. Now his legacy will be tainted by this ugliness. No difference between what Favre did and Spygate. Same advantages given

It seems to me like Jay Glazer has become the equivalent of a gossip queen. Each week we have to hear about who did this and who is doing that. Next he'll start talking about who is dating who. I think the worst part of Sunday pre-game is listening to him spout off about he said / she said stuff. If I want drama, I'll watch Access Hollywood or some other 'tabloid' type show. Is this not football? I have no use for the personal side of what player did what to whom or who is not getting along with his coaches. If Fox needs Glazer to attract a female crowd by making the game more 'emotioinal', then I'll turn them off.
dgooch10/23/2008 3:59:00 AM(Report inappropriate content)
Jay Glazer, you made a mountain out of a mole hill. You're story is junk. And to top it off, you now claim to stand by it "1,000 percent." Favre clearly explained the truth of the matter, but you and Fox insist on bending the truth, just like Fox does when it comes to politics. Jay, you're a refugee from the Addams' family, Uncle Fester's long-lost cousin

What a joke Glazer. I guess your job is the easiest in the world. Writing stories without having to bother with silly little things like "evidence" or "facts" or "proof", just cite the mysterious "sources". Typical lazy reporting.
