The Bears are sure to have a new defensive line coach next season, but it remains unclear whether Rod Marinelli will assume that title.

The former Detroit Lions head coach received a formal offer from the Bears, with current defensive line coach Brick Haley bound for LSU.

According to league sources, Marinelli left the Seattle Seahawks' complex Monday after discussing the defensive coordinator position there. The Seahawks plan to interview Tampa Bay linebackers coach Gus Bradley on Tuesday.

Marinelli's agent, Frank Bauer, could not be reached for comment Monday night.

Bears head coach Lovie Smith met with Marinelli last week, and the two have a close friendship dating back to their days as position coaches with Tampa Bay.

Meanwhile, Haley was spotted on the LSU campus Monday afternoon, according to the Baton Rouge Advocate. He is expected to coach the defensive line there, although head coach Les Miles had yet to confirm the hiring.

Haley could not be reached for comment Monday night.

Is it a good idea? 70.7% of the more than 2,200 respondents to a chicagotribune.com poll said they would welcome former Lions coach Rod Marinelli on the Bears staff. But 29.3 percent answered, "No way -- hello, 0-16?"`
