Minicamp Day One

The Bills went exclusively with the no-huddle offense during 11-on-11 drills.
Running back Marshawn Lynch sat out Tuesday, giving Fred Jackson and Dominic Rhodes a chance to get all the snaps with the starting offense. That's not really a bad thing since Lynch is likely to miss the first three games (assuming he loses his appeal of the NFL-mandated suspension).
Rookie guards Eric Wood and Andy Levitre opened the first 11-on-11 session with the starters, though veterans Kirk Chambers and Seth McKinney got plenty of snaps with the first unit. The Bills have to be encouraged by how well Wood and Levitre have handled themselves so far.
Wide receiver Steve Johnson came up with the catch of the day when he beat cornerback Ashton Youboty down the sideline and hauled in a deep ball from backup quarterback Gibran Hamdan during 7-on-7 work. Johnson collided with safety Ko Simpson, but managed to hold on to the ball. Hamdan also drilled a completion to receiver Josh Reed deep down the seam.
The defense's pressure packages continue to give the offense trouble. During the first 11-on-11 segment, rookie defensive end Aaron Maybin had a would-be sack on QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick still got rid of the ball but it was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by rookie linebacker Nic Harris. One play later, Youboty came clean on a corner blitz for what would have been a sack under game conditions.
Linebacker Kawika Mitchell blew up a play when he penetrated untouched on a blitz. Defensive end Jermaine McGhee showed good athleticism by pressuring Hamdan and then leaping to bat down the pass in team work.
Owens and cornerback Terrence McGee have had some nice battles this spring. McGee appeared to get beat on a deep post pattern by Owens, but McGee recovered to break up the pass.
