Texans target Grossman Veteran QB, team OK terms of one-year deal
by By JOHN McCLAIN, HOUSTON CHRONICLE , The Houston Chronicle
Grossman (6-1, 217 pounds) will join Matt Schaub, Dan Orlovsky and Alex Brink as quarterbacks on the roster. Coach Gary Kubiak plans to keep three on the roster this season.
Grossman threw for 6,164 yards and 33 touchdowns with 35 interceptions in six seasons with the Bears.
If Schaub is sidelined because of injuries for the third consecutive season, Grossman will give the Texans an experienced backup behind Orlovsky, who signed as a free agent from Detroit.
Meanwhile, free safety Troy Nolan became the second Texans draft choice to sign a contract. Nolan, the seventh-round pick, played at Arizona State. On Monday, cornerback Brice McCain, the sixth-round pick, became the first draft choice to sign.
Nolan and McCain will be among the rookies and other players who'll participate in the three-day minicamp that begins Monday. Kubiak told 30 veterans they have to work out during the minicamp but won't be required to be on the field.
