Former Rams quarterback Trent Green seems to believe in life after Football.

Green announced his retirement Friday, telling foxsports.com: "I feel this is finally the right time. I've talked about it with (the family) for a while, especially with the concussions over the last few years. We all felt it was the time to do it."

His agent, Jim Steiner, said Green was on vacation with his family in Cooperstown, N.Y., and unavailable for comment.

"It's been looming for several months now," Steiner said. "It wasn't unexpected."

Steiner said Green's next move will be to the broadcast booth or studio as an analyst. Over the past couple years, he has dipped his toe in the business, serving as a draft analyst for ESPN and appearing on the NFL Network's "Total Access" show.

"It's the perfect spot for him to land," Steiner said. "There's not a heck of a lot available this season, but he'll get some opportunities, and we'll build on it in the future."

Green, 38, spent 15 seasons in the NFL, three with the Rams . He threw for a total of 28,475 yards and 162 touchdowns.

His career passed this way several times. Born in Iowa, Green grew up in Oakville and attended Vianney High. He went to college at Indiana University and was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the eighth round of the 1993 draft. He appeared in just one game with the Chargers and Washington Redskins until 1998, when, under the tutelage of Mike Martz, Green blossomed, starting 14 games in his final season in Washington.

The pair joined the Rams in 1999, though Green's happy homecoming was cut short in the preseason. A nasty hit by the Chargers' Rodney Harrison caused a season-ending knee injury, which led to Kurt Warner's ascendancy in the Super Bowl season. Green started five games in 2000 but was traded to the Chiefs after the season.

He found a second home across the state, where he started 88 games in six seasons, passed for 21,459 yards and 118 touchdowns, and made the Pro Bowl in 2003 and 2005. A series of concussions limited his playing time during his final season in Kansas City and the next year in Miami.

Released by the Dolphins, Green returned to the Rams last season as a free agent but played in just three games. He started Sept. 28, completing 17 of 32 passes but tossing a costly interception in the 31-14 loss to Buffalo. Coach Scott Linehan was fired after the game and Marc Bulger was reinstated as the starter.

Green injured his right elbow in November against the Jets and was released in February along with wide receiver Drew Bennett.
