Ravens LB charged with drunken driving

Published Dec. 27, 2010 12:00 a.m. ET

Baltimore Ravens rookie linebacker Sergio Kindle was charged with drunken driving over the weekend, The Baltimore Sun reported Monday, citing court papers.

Police pulled over the 23-year-old in Howard County, Md., around 4:00 a.m. Sunday when they saw his car veering off the road and driving too close to another car.

The papers said that Kindle’s blood alcohol content measured .17 — more than twice the legal limit — after he failed each sobriety test given to him, according to The Sun.

“Kindle had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, his eyes were bloodshot/glassy, his speech was slurred and he admitted to having ‘a few drinks’ at a club in Washington, D.C.,” Howard County Officer Stuart A. Hammond wrote in the report.

“I just want to apologize to the organization because I don’t want to bring a negative light to the team,” Kindle told The Sun. “It was my mistake. I can’t take it back now.”

Kindle, who was the Ravens’ first draft pick for 2010, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, speeding, and failing to obey traffic control devices, according to the report.

He was released after posting $10,000 bail.
