Broncos release former Raider Justin Fargas

Former Raiders starting running back Justin Fargas has been released by the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos signed the 30-year-old veteran on August 11 to bolster their banged-up backfield after their top three tailbacks went down with injuries in training camp.

However, the son of former Starsky and Hutch star Antonio Fargas - who played iconic character Huggy Bear on the show - gained just 17 yards on 10 carries in the preseason, with his longest carry a six-yarder.

The younger Fargas ran for 1,009 yards as a starter with the Raiders in 2007, then had 853 yards the next season before the team drafted Darren McFadden in the first round to take his place. He struggled to get carries until his release by the team this offseason.

The Broncos also designated cornerback Tony Carter as waived/injured. He was signed on April 27, 2009, as an undrafted college free agent out of Florida State.
