Bengals trade QB Palmer to Raiders
Carson Palmer has his wish.
The Cincinnati Bengals and Oakland Raiders have finalized a deal that will send the former Cincy starting quarterback to Oakland to take the place of injured Jason Campbell.
As FOXSports.com first reported, the Bengals will exchange a first-round pick in 2012 and a future second-round pick that could escalate to a first-rounder based on his play.
Palmer demanded a trade at the end of last season, threatening retirement even though his contract runs through the 2014 season. Until Tuesday, Bengals owner Mike Brown was insistent upon making the latter his course of action.
However, former Bengals assistant (and current Raiders head coach) Hue Jackson worked on Brown, as the two have a close relationship.
''We also find ourselves rather suddenly in position of being able to receive real value for Carson that can measurably improve our team, which is performing well and is showing real promise for this year and years to come,'' Brown said in a statement.
''When this opportunity arose, we felt we could not let it pass and needed to take a step forward with the football team if we could.''
Campbell was injured in Sunday's 24-17 win vs. the Cleveland Browns. The Raiders' starting QB underwent surgery for a broken collarbone on Monday, and is expected to miss a minimum of six weeks.
