DL Landri waived, Wyche promoted

Defensive tackle Derek Landri was the odd man out Thursday when the Jaguars made the latest spin of their defensive line merry-go-round. The Jaguars were left with just three healthy defensive ends on the roster after rookie Julius Williams was sidelined Thursday with a knee injury. So they waived Landri, who had been inactive the last four games, and signed James Wyche from the practice squad. Wyche was inactive in the first game and then was waived. He was re-signed to the practice squad on Nov. 24 after rookie Jeremy Navarre was promoted from the practice squad the previous day when Bryan Smith went on the injured reserve list. Their two backup defensive ends now have a total of one game of NFL experience. Navarre had seven snaps at defensive end in San Francisco and played on special teams in his first game. Wyche, drafted in the seventh round in 2006, has yet to appear in an NFL game. The shuffling of the defensive line probably means that Quentin Groves, benched twice earlier this year, will likely become the third starter at right defensive end in as many weeks. Derrick Harvey is the starter at the left side. Groves knows these last five games will be critical for him in his bid to show the Jaguars he can be effective. "Big, big, big, huge," Groves said.
