Report: Carolina re-signs RB Williams

The Carolina Panthers agreed to terms Wednesday on a five-year, $43 million contract with running back DeAngelo Williams, the NFL Network reported.

The deal, which cannot be finalized until Friday, guarantees the 2009 Pro Bowler $21 million. The 28-year-old also drew interest from the New York Giants and Denver Broncos.

Williams rushed for more than 1,100 yards in 2008 and 2009 before a foot sprain forced him to miss the final 10 games of the 2010 season. The Panthers ended up finishing 2-14, and drafting quarterback Cam Newton with the first pick in this year's NFL Draft.

On Tuesday, the Panthers agreed to terms with defensive end Charles Johnson, who became the team's top defensive lineman last season with 11.5 sacks and 73 tackles
