Tebow expected to be named starter?

Published Oct. 10, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Denver Broncos coach John Fox is expected to officially name Tim Tebow as the team's starting quarterback Tuesday, The Denver Post reported.

Broncos fans' long-held calls to permanently install Tebow under center became deafening at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Sunday after his starring late role in the 29-24 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

Tebow ran for a touchdown and threw for another to almost overturn a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit after replacing Kyle Orton in the second half.

Fox refused to name a starter in the postgame news conference, but indicated he would judge all decisions on performances.

"This is a high-pressure job as a player and as a coach, and we're in a performance-based business and we have to perform," he said.

With Orton enduring a tough start to the season, Fox was expected to finally reward Tebow with the starting role he has craved since he was chosen by Denver in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

The 1-4 Broncos can then use their bye week to practice with Tebow ahead of the Oct. 23 trip to Miami.
