Former Chicago Bears and New York Giants cornerback R.W. McQuarters was shot in Oklahoma but escaped without serious injury, Tulsa World reported Sunday.

McQuarters was leaving a friend's home in Tulsa, Okla., around 12:15 a.m. Saturday when he saw a man standing outside the home wearing a ski mask, Tulsa police Sgt. Bill Goree said. The masked man quickly left the area according to Goree.

A few minutes later, McQuarters got into his vehicle. He was driving away when he heard multiple gunshots and felt a bullet hit him through the driver's side window.

He drove himself to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police did not have the shooter in custody or a description of him.

Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the 1998 draft, McQuarters enjoyed his greatest success at the Bears and Giants, and was a member of the Giants in 2008 when they won Super Bowl XLII.
