Fred Jackson out for Sunday's game

Published Nov. 23, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson won't play Sunday in New York against the Jets because of a leg injury.

Jackson was ruled out by coach Chan Gailey on Wednesday because of a right calf injury sustained in Buffalo's blowout loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Gailey also wasn't optimistic when he was asked if Jackson would be back before the regular season ends.

Jackson was limited to 17 yards on seven carries before getting hurt in the second half in Miami. He entered the game as the NFL's leading rusher.

Jackson's absence comes as a once-prolific Bills offensive attack has fallen on hard times during a three-game losing streak.
